BBC Scotland has highlighted the ridiculous claim that Arsenal lead the £35m pursuit of Manny Fernandez!
There is no pursuit, no chase or race, just media spin for the latest moderate talent out of Ibrox.
At the old club Jean-Alian Boumsong was the greatest heist carried out, Grame Souness convinced Newcastle to spend £8m on a bag average defender that was a free agent six months earlier.
Souness hasn’t been involved in management since being sacked by Newcastle.
The Fernandez story comes from the same template used for Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent. Both stars left Ibrox as free agents and have barely played football since the summer of 2022. Both have drifted from club to club.
FERNANDEZ SLOPTS INTO THE FREZ FLETCH TEMPLATE
Fraser Fletcher has a very vivid imagination. So vivid that Football Insider got rid of him because he was trashing their limited credibility.
These days he conjures up masterpieces for TeamTalk. In the summer Aston Villa, Brentford and Crystal Palace were leading the £30 race for Nico Raskin. The Belgian ace hasn’t been the subject of a bid in the last two transfer windows. Not even from Turkey.
Fletcher spent time working for the BBC. Kenny Macintyre and Alasdair Lamont were especially keen to groom him in the tricks of the trade.
In the summer of 2023 Fletcher even fell for the ‘Saudi giants swoop for Scott Wright’ yarn. That came days after Celtic picked up £25m for Jota.
Now Fletch has turned his attention to Fernandez, the former Peterborough starlet who has been playing on the Arsenal radar for years!

In his trademark style Fletcher discloses:
Rangers are braced for significant interest and are reportedly set to demand at least £25m – with some sources suggesting a higher valuation up to £35m – for the centre-back, who has three years left on his contract.
Manager Danny Rohl has praised Fernandez as a role model for the club’s development strategy and hopes to keep him, but the club may find it difficult to resist substantial Premier League bids.
Peterborough also have a sell-on clause attached to any deal, which will drive Rangers’ asking price upwards.
Arsenal lead the domestic pursuit, with the Gunners closely monitoring the giant defender as a potential reinforcement for their backline.
Fernandez might attract a £5m offer in the summer from a Championship club.
No one is paying £25-35m for someone with less than 30 appearances in the SPFL.
In Europe Fernandez played in 4 Europa League matches for the club that finished 32nd out of 36.
Youssef Chermiti and Raskin can expect similar storylines over the coming weeks.
BBC Scotland laps up these type of stories. An appearance on the BBC gossip page almost certainly means that there is no substance to a story.
BBC Scotland is entirely funded by the licence payer. Last week it was announced that there will be a 10% job cuts across the BBC alongside a freeze on recruitment.

My good God ?? is there ever going to be any let up from these idiots promoting the dross from Liebox…. 35 million big ones for a second rate lower league defender who no other English club saw any potential in, no wonder them lowlife bigots really think they are the people reading bull shit from some zero IQ Fletcher clown***
They didnt fall for it joe, they perputate it, the myth as well as the bullshit
Celtic win 6-2 and get to another final
Next again day this and the obligatory ‘ Wonder kid set to knock back EPL clubs ‘ headline
At this point in time I can’t think of anyone worth anywhere near £25M
in Scotland – and that includes our own squad.
You’d expect that sort of transfer nonsense in The DR: it’s normal.
The BBC Scotland is not much better these days: incredibly poor all round.
If I paid the BBC Licence Fee Tax, I’d be bothered. 🙂
