Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Celtic have made a contract offer to Kelechi Iheanacho.
The former Leicester striker had a patchy seven months after joining Celtic in September after getting out of his contract at Sevilla.
When Celtic most needed goals Iheanacho delivered.
Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu, loan signings during the January window were pushed aside when the serious action got underway.
When Celtic most needed goals Iheanacho delivered.
Away to Dundee, Hibs and most memorably at Motherwell he came off the bench to score the winning goals.
Seven weeks ago at Hampden the 29-year-old scored in the Scottish Cup Final against Dunfermline. Increasingly that looks like his final contribution for Celtic.
O’NEILL FACES DIMINISHING STRIKER OPTIONS
With the new season less than three weeks away it increasingly looks like Iheanacho has played his last game for Celtic.
Asked for an update on the situation with the former Leicester striker, O’Neill told the Daily Record:
There’s an offer there to him at this minute. So we’ll see how that develops.
The shortness of that reply suggests that O’Neill is losing hope of being reunited with Iheanacho.
The regular suggestion has been that the striker needs a full pre-season to regain a workable level of fitness.
Celtic resumed pre-season training on June 27 without Iheanacho, on July 13 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejoined the squad.
As it stands Celtic face Sporting Lisbon tonight with the striker options limited to Callum Osmand and Shin Yamada.
Johnny Kenny is a few weeks away as he recovers from injury with Camilo Duran reported to have picked up an illness.
In exactly five weeks time Celtic face a Champions League Play-Off.
Without Iheanacho you’d imagine that O’Neill will be pushing for at least one, possibly two strikers to be signed up.
Celtic return from Portugal later this week with just two more pre-season matches to play.
Players involved in the World Cup will rejoin the squad but it is fresh signings that fans are looking out for.
Duran is clearly a step in the right direction but with Daizen Maeda expected to leave scoring goals must be a priority issue to be addressed.

Not another penny we are signing nobody they are deliberately destroying our squad
Plunge Mcnugget, I think NAP is pointless after giving the board £30m + in Season ticket money
Editor: NAP is crashing every other income stream. It is doing a fantastic job.
Who in their right mind would give up a season ticket that they’ve held for maybe 30 or 40 yrs with literally no hope of ever getting it back? Perhaps even seated together with family or friends they have made over decades?
Are u a season ticket holder? Have u give up ur seat or are u just an occasional who turns up when they have time whilst asking others to make sacrifices you probably haven’t or wouldn’t make yourself?
Spot on Bhoy4life. I would love to know how many of these people saying we should boycott season tickets have done exactly that this season. Or if they just like to go when the sun is shining.
The odious Desmond and his malignant cabal of corporate greed and austerity fc don’t bloody care , this is a car crash in slow motion paid for by the season ticket holders who call themselves fans , stop giving them your money or you are complicit in the destruction of our club
With every day Martins starting to look like a YES man ,every single day ,their laughing there arses off they’ve got the season ticket money so nothing changes
Lol,you know what they say, fools and their money are easily parted, hence season ticket money, with the board laughing and running all the way to bank with the cash, but hey they aint finished yet, here comes so more PROFESSIONAL CHISLING coming towards us all.
They will punt at least 3 possibly 4 top players long before deadline day without signing replacements, another wee sprint to the bank with another big wedge.
An action replay of previous champions league qualifiers with no signings before deadline day,all on the hope that they qualify on the CHEAP with no outlays,KERCHING£.
Meanwhile we have our fans crying their eyes out on moan-ins at the daily sevco regarding the CHISLERS on the board not spending the money they same fans just gave them, just when will these doughballs learn they are getting the PISS took out of them, at least the sevco board throw some crumbs of comfort to the plebs who attend ibrox and part with their cash.
As for our club and board, they SHITE on us from a great height, and then rub it in by giving us 2 fingers.
But I wouldn’t worry to much about it,the same folk who parted with the cash this season, well we can see the action replay next season, getting ripped off, then crying to moan-in about no cash being spent.
I’m only the messenger,so don’t shoot me.
