Tjark Ernst won’t be joining Celtic.
The 23-year-old German was heavily tipped to leave Hertha Berlin with just one year remaining on his contract.
Despite German interest and some mentions of Celtic Ernst has joined Feyenoord, managed again by Giovanni van Bronkckhorst.
The extent of Celtic’s interest is unclear but after last week’s friendly against Shelbourne Martin O’Neill did discuss bringing in an additional goalkeeper.
Kasper Schmeichel’s retirement through injury pushed every other goalkeeper up a place at Celtic with Vil Sinisalo impressing as the first choice keeper.
The Finn came in for a daunting run of trips to Stuttgart, Pittodrie and two visits to Ibrox and looked completely at ease, spreading confidence across the defence.
Whether that run is deserving of being considered as the first choice ‘keeper has been debated but Sinisalo won’t be challenged by Ernst in the days ahead.

Ernst clearly has something about him, if he is valued by Feyenoord you would assume that he would be of a standard that Celtic would welcome. And also be affordable.
CELTIC HAVE MAJOR RECRUITMENT ISSUES
Having Michael Nicholson leading negotiations will always be a huge handicap. He may be one of Scotland’s leading sports lawyers but that doesn’t give him and character or presence.
Over the last two years Celtic have developed a reputation of being a club for agents and clubs to ignore.
An outdated system ensures that every deal is dragged out. From the first mentioned link to Camilo Duran to completing the deal took three weeks.
If terms can be agreed Nicholson then needs permission from Non Executive Directors to complete a deal. Often that can be dependent on tee off times.
Feyenoord have a Champions League Third Round qualifier to prepare for on August 4/5 and are getting their work done as quickly as possible.
More than a month after Chairman Brian Wilson promised a very active few weeks just one player has been added to the Celtic squad.
With the SPFL starting in less than three weeks time is starting to run against Martin O’Neill and a proper rebuild of his playing options.

I don’t have season ticket anymore due to other commitments but if I had renewed this year on the belief things might change, would be kicking myself. As long as people keep buying in, this board will take them for mugs. Apart from not another penny, that needs to include match tickets too. Any stream of income must be blanked. Even if that means sacrificing one season for complete change then it’ll be worth it in the long run. What else can be done, nobody wants to resort to violence. All it takes though is for one person to lose it and who knows what might happen. People are angry
Its on the mugs who buy the season tickets now
Of course Celtic missed out, as they were never in for the player; just more gaslighting for the gullible. It will – as always – be a few cheap punts, Bosmans and loans on the last day of the window. Every Celtic season ticket holder enables this Board, so don’t moan when they do what they always do….
Don’t miss out on the fabulous range of Adidas kit, will you?
