The Louden Tavern slipped peacefully away last night, in the shadow of Celtic Park.
With a Champions League Play Off taking place a mile away the red, white and blue shutters came down on the Duke Street eye-sore for the final time.
Despite self declaring themselves as the Greatest Pub In The World last orders has been called on the Louden Tavern.
For decades the Louden has been a blight on the east end landscape. But now like many similar themed pubs in the west of Scotland it is time to pack up and shut down.
Back in 2012 loyal bears warned Scottish football about the consequences of the liquidation of Rangers.
Apparently football clubs and the economies of Scotland’s major cities were dependent of the mystical Blue Pound.
TIME UP FOR THE LADS OF THE LOUDEN
Funnily enough the Blue Pound was unable to save their own football club. In June 2012 Prince Andrew’s Mum rejected a CVA, Rangers died.
Now, more than a decade on the consequences are being felt with a new generation no longer wanting to be associated with misery and failure.
Especially when every month sees a new Irish/Celtic pub opening in Glasgow city centre.

From St Vincent’s a decade ago Celtic pubs are thriving across Glasgow and beyond.
Friendly, welcoming and with live entertainment all through the week Irish pubs are taking over Glasgow. In the Merchant City they dominate.
Scotland’s most successful club brings with it a huge economic benefit.
Trophy celebrations and victories in the derby are almost guaranteed half a dozen times or more a season.
A generation of Celtic fans are accustomed to success. A domestic double is virtually a Standing Order, five trebles have been won in the last decade.
At the Louden they’ve been able to celebrate two trophy wins since 2011.
A Scottish Cup success in May 2022 followed by a League Cup win in December 2023.
Only John Souttar, Dujon Sterling and Ross McCausland of the current Ibrox squad have a winners medal to their name.
The Louden Tavern won’t be the last of its type to give up the ghost.
With Glasgow increasingly green and white it is difficult to turn the tide on the demographics fuelled by the patterns of success.
Awwwww, I’m so disappointed.
I was just thinking that you and I could have popped in for a quiet pint. I’m sure they would have welcomed us with open arms??????never mind there’s always Larkhall or Dreghorn or Kilwinning!— thomas mcdade (@thomasmcdade1) August 19, 2026

Deid, just like their rotten to the core team !!!
Just like that team they can RIP,Rot In Pieces !!!
Bbbut ur they no shimply ra besht?
Oh dear how sad never mind.
Seen more life in a TRAMPS jacket, than you would get in sevco pubs, hence them closing down.
They ripped off their own crowd when they visited the pub, overcharging for beers, wines, and spirits.
Punters eventually started sneaking in their own bevvy to drink as they took the piss with the prices.
