Corporate Celtic took over Estadio Nacional yesterday afternoon to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1967 European Cup win.
Celtic TV were on hand to interview Martin O’Neill, Roy Aitken and Tom Boyd with the iconic stadium bathed in sunshine.
It was O’Neill’s first ever visit to the stadium central to the history of Celtic.
Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus were included but it seems that on Matchday Shaun Maloney opted out of the distraction.
There is no footage or interviews with any of the club directors.
Despite their new found enthusiasm for communications and fan engagement Michael Nicholson and Brian Wilson decided to be elsewhere.
@CelticFC Aye gid laugh. Left 400 of us outside in 30
Degrees while 200 “Friends and family of sponsors” got in and the rest of us melted ??— Moyes (@Moyzi) October 15, 2026
Celtic had around 3,500 fans at last night’s match against Benfica. It is reasonable to assume that the majority made the out of town pilgrimage to the Estadio Nacional.
CELTIC EXPLOIT THE LISBON LINK
As the comments highlight Celtic fans had to wait outside while the club showed their guests around the scene of their greatest success.
These days the Lisbon Lions is little more than a marketing ploy for the retail operations of the club.
Football wise ambition died a long time ago. At the 2025 AGM Ross Desmond lectured fans about the dangers of swinging and missing.
This week Celtic fans have watched Bodo Glimt, Club Brugge and Sabah winning in the Champions League.
A few hours after his Celtic TV interview O’Neill was highlighting the positives that he has taken from a 4-1 defeat to Benfica.
O’Neill’s side are sitting third bottom of the Europa League table with no points and a -5 goal difference.
Before the November international break the hoops will host Celta Vigo and Beskitas. The Turkish side has taken full points from their opening two matches.
While the back slapping was going on the clock is ticking down towards the Celtic AGM.
Shareholders require three weeks notice of the meeting which was abandoned after less than an hour last year by Chairman Peter Lawwell.
@CelticFC Locked us out for this utter rats
