Glasgow SNP Councillor apologises to Collymore after race row

|

twitter Celtic newsSNP Councillor James Torrance was last night caught up in a race row with Stan Collymore.

The popular TalkSport presenter recalled an experience with Paul Gascoigne on England international duty while Gazza was a Rangers player.

Collymore’s insight was well received by most listeners with the debate picked up on twitter as news emerged that Gascoigne had flown to America for treatment.

For reasons best known to himself @JamesTorranceSNP decided to wade in and brought Celtic into the conversation.

Out of touch Torrance tweeted: “Stan I’m a Councillor for the Great City of Glasgow I would challenge anyone calling RFC/Celtic fans or any Glasweigen racist .”

Torrance added: “@StanCollymore No idea you were abused – didn’t recognise your name, it seemed you called all RFC fans racists, clearly you didn’t apologies.”

Stan Collymore twitterWhy Torrance would respond to someone on twitter who he claims not to recognise, with over 350,000 followers, seems strange while the claim that he would challenge anyone calling any Glaswegian racist is completely off the radar.

Of course Glasgow has racists. There are racists in every town and city in the UK and across Europe. If there were no racists in Glasgow why does the city support so many anti-racist events and organisations?

Collymore is well used to dealing with the hard of thinking, regularly taking racist abuse on his twitter account. Retweeting some of the abuse to his followers tends to have the desired effect shining the light on their ignorance.

Stan Collymore twitterThe former England striker explained: “Lost count of how many blocks. You’ll just have to do a twitter search with my name in to see some of the filth. Quite scary some.”

In the cold light of day perhaps Councillor Torrance should get in touch with one of the many agencies dealing with racism in Glasgow and bring himself upto speed with the city he so proudly represents.

since when did collymore become a victim. i had to laugh when he tweets about how domestic violence is wrong when he punched ulrica johnston all over a paris pub. not to mention his dogging exploits. he was a footballer, and i am only willing to listen to his comments on football. as for the snp councillor. if i were alex salmond i’d tell all my msp’s to never talk about teams/football in a professional capacity. too much at stake with the 2014 independence vote.

  • Monti says:

He’s already lost my family’s vote after trying to do the Huns a turn during the tax case, not interested in a single word this little man has to say! If your for them, your against me!

  • Monti says:

I remember a senior strathclyde policeman calling me ” A papish bastard” I was 17 & never been in trouble! Some things stay with you eh? Scotland is Sectarian! Judges, police & employers! How many of us ( Celtic & Catholic) fans have worked in a workplace where all the gadgets are Huns? I have found it difficuilt, you? As our Bobby said ” our victory will be in the laughter of our children” HH!

  • Monti says:

    ‘gaffers’

  • Scott Mackenzie says:

so monti you would rather scotland stay under english rule because you feel alex salmon supported rangers? are you aware a vote for independence is not a vote for alex salmond? you can vote labour in the general elections, while still voting for independence. you also quote bobby – how do you think he would vote?

    • Monti says:

      Agreed Scott!

    • Monti says:

What I would say though is the demise of Rangers is more important to me than independance for Scotland! Some might say that’s sad,I don’t give a fuck what some might say! It’s a no vote for me in terms of Salmond! In terms of independance run by a Labour government, absolutely!

Salmond spoke up for tax cheats who have deprived public services of multi millions, that’s what I call an o.g.! ALBA GO BRAGH!

    • Gerry says:

James Torrance exemplifies the type of politician that would be running the country should Scotland become independent. Complete amateurs.

  • Mac says:

I bet Stan will be in the stands at the Juve game, in the hope of seeing Snoop Dogging! 🙂

  • Bill Murray says:

Snoop might get in as one of the police Doggs!
