Recent signing PJ Crossan made his Celtic debut yesterday as a Development XI drew 0-0 with Whitehill Welfare.

The 17-year-old was signed from Dunfermline during the close season after impressing in the closing stages of last season’s League One title win.

With an eye on their Irn-Bru Cup tie with Annan Athletic on August 2 Tommy McIntyre’s side have been involved in pre-season action against Clyde, Dalbeattie Star and Whitehill.

Luke Donnelly was listed as a substitute with the attacking midfielder looking to make up for lost time after a nightmare time with injuries last season.

According to the Whitehill facebook page: “A big crowd watched a determined Welfare secure a very credible result against a talented young Celtic side at Ferguson Park.

It was a keenly contested game and a tight opening half hour with Celtic having the only clear chance. A good cross from the left from Calvin Miller found the unmarked PJ Crossan 8 yards out but his header was sent wide of Bryan Young’s right hand post.

With 35 minutes on the clock the same Celtic forward had the ball in the back of net following up a parried shot but he was ruled offside.”

The report added: “Heading into the closing stages Celtic pushed for a winner and Jack Aitchison was played through with a ball over the top however his lob over Young went high over the crossbar.

Scott Moffat latched on to a good through ball however as he attempted to round the goalkeeper he mis-controlled and the ball ran out of play.

Whitehill were penned in and after Celtic had worked hard to find an opening Young had to tip a shot low to his left round the post at full stretch.
