Efrain Juarez- oh yes he is!

No international transfer runs smoothly.

With agents involved for the player and probably the selling club and buying club there will be plenty of conflicts of interest- and commission.

The transfer of Efrain Juarez to Celtic from Pumas is open to various interpretations with agents inevitably involved at every level.

In a stale transfer market the prospect of a £2/3/4m transfer to Europe will have most agents in Mexico and beyond rubbing their hands for a cut of the commission.

Jorge Berlanda has certainly been making lots of sound-bites about the deal, in my experience agents that make the most noise tend to know least.

Most agents would like to spark a bidding war, alerting other clubs that a deal is in the offing and hoping to increase the stakes.

If nothing else it gives the agent plenty of publicity and a boost to his ego- especially if he has missed out on a deal.

It looks like Celtic have acted smartly in the Juarez deal with the move well under way and the work permit issue virtually a formality.

There will be a few hurdles and obstacles to overcome, whether the player joins up with Celtic in North America over the coming week remains to be seen.

Long before Celtic’s opening Champions League tie on July 27/28 Juarez is likely to be unveiled in a Celtic strip despite the squeals of attention seeking agents hoping to hi-jack the deal.

As for the player, he hasn’t said a word about the move- another sign that the move to Celtic is well advanced.

Players that issue ‘come-and-get-me’ pleas tend to be moving somewhere else.

Juarez seems to be the type of player with a lot to offer Celtic, mainly as a midfielder with the right-back position well covered.

The agricultural nature of the SPL shouldn’t be too much of an eye-opener for a player groomed in the Mexican league.

So far Celtic’s transfer dealing looks to be quite smart and fairly low key.

Juarez will join Joe Ledley, Charlie Mulgrew and Cha Du-Ri with others of a similar profile likely to follow.

Before appointing Neil Lennon as manager Peter Lawwell promised that ‘it will be worth the wait’.

Perhaps he was dropping a hint to the headline-grabbing signing that will get supporters chasing season tickets again- Robbie Keane or Craig Bellamy would certainly fit the bill with uncertainty and speculation over the future of both players.
