Ki Sung Yeung predicts Korean impact

|

Ki Sung Yeung is looking for a Korean one-two to drive Celtic to the SPL title.

The young midfielder spent time at the World Cup talking Cha Du-Ri into joining him in Glasgow and is confident that it will be a winning double.

In his brief Celtic appearances last season Ki looked promising with a good range of passes, a willingness to break forward from midfield and the physical presence that is often lacking in Asean players.

Cha looks to have similar qualities with a devastating turn of pace that is sure to catch the eye in the season ahead with Ki believing that the arrival of his international team-mate will boost his own game.

“It’s very good for me that Cha is now at Celtic,” Ki admitted. “He is a good player and a good friend. We talked a lot before he joined and I told him to come.

“Sometimes last season I felt lonely, but that was because I wasn’t playing as much as I would have liked and because I couldn’t help the team the way I would have liked.

“My Celtic career is just starting now, that’s how I am looking at it. I joined in January and it’s always difficult to come to a new club who are midway through their season.

“I have a pre-season under my belt now and a good World Cup behind me. That has done a lot for my confidence but I always knew I could do that, I just needed my chance.”

Cha instantly caught the eye on his Celtic debut against Manchester United with a burst of pace not seen in a Celtic jersey since the early days of Didier Agathe.

Having been brought up in Germany Cha is used to the demands of the European game and shouldn’t take too long to adapt to the physical demands of the Scottish game.

Ki added: “Cha is a great player. He has been at two World Cups and this is a good signing for Celtic. He will bring a lot to the team.

“He is very fast and you caught a glimpse of that against Man United. He is the quickest player in our national team. He also played in the Bundesliga, so he has got very good experience.

“I’m glad he’s here. We can spend a lot of time together and there are a lot of advantages for us both.

“In Scotland you need to be physical and he is like that. His body is like a robot, he is called the Human Weapon back home. The Celtic fans will love him I’m sure.”
