Willie Collum given Celtic-Rangers game

|

The SFA have appointed Willie Collum to take charge of Sunday’s Celtic-Rangers fixture.

Rookie Collum has never been put in charge of a Glasgow derby and will have a baptism of fire at Parkhead on Sunday.

The decision to give Collum the match is a major slap in the face for Craig Thomson, Steve Conroy, Dougie McDonald and Callum Murray who handled last season’s derby clashes.

Conroy has yet to referee a single SPL match this season and the experienced Thomson had been expected to be put in charge on Sunday.

Rangers have made public their unhappiness at Thomson’s recent performance in the Hearts-Rangers match where Nikica Jelavic picked up an ankle injury likely to rule him out of action for three to four months.

Thomson has been put in charge of Saturday’s Aberdeen-Hibs match with Murray taking control of the Hearts-St Mirren match at Tynecastle

I wonder why the SFA have appointed the inexperienced Willie Collum to take charge of Sunday’s Celtic-Rangers fixture.

Is it because they want to develop a promising refereeing talent or are the SFA trying to play mind games on Neil Lennon here? Willie Collum also refereed the FA Cup game against Ross County, the only domestic game Celtic have lost since he took charge of the team.

The effect on the players should be minimal as there are only two eligible for selection left from that game. However, the target here seems to be our manager, who they hope to influence. I hope Neil recognises this for what it is and that it backfires and only serves to increase his detrmination to win the game.

With respect Hugh I wasn’t even aware that Collum had been in charge of the Ross County game.

The culprits for that match are now scattered far and wide.

Lenny will have plenty of issues to deal with for the Rangers match, the fact that Collum was in charge of the Ross County match won’t be an issue.

Until he proves otherwise I welcome the appointment of Wille Collum because the rest I do not trust they’ve shown there true colours.
