Freddie Ljungberg Celtic newsBerwick Rangers are pulling out all the stops to ensure that Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie with Celtic goes ahead.

The Third Division club are desperate for the game to go ahead to enjoy the attention of live coverage from Sky Sports and the Celtic debut of Freddie Ljungberg.

On Monday morning an army of volenteers helped clear snow off the pitch at Shielfield Park to allow the club to put protective covers on the pitch.

The Berwick website announced: “Generally the pitch is in good condition but the last remnants of the snow had to be removed before the pitch was covered the protect it from any further cold weather before Sunday.”

New floodlights have been installed to satisfy Sky Sports whose live coverage of the match will help give the club a £100,000 plus boost from the tie.

Berwick are currently sitting in fifth place in the league six points behind leaders Stranraer but with two games in hand.

To reach the fourth round of the Cup Jimmy Crease’s side have won away at Cove Rangers and Clyde.

In their last outing, on December 11, they drew 1-1 away to Stranraer.
