Record bonuses paid out to Rangers' bankers

|

Tenner Celtic newsLabour and some Liberal politicians have joined Walter Smith in criticising the Lloyds banking group.

Last week the under pressure Rangers boss accused the clubs bankers of ‘dictating the policy overall’ and that ‘we are well and truly in the hands of the bank’.

Smith is unhappy that he has no money to spend on players during the January transfer window and will no doubt be furious to learn that outgoing Lloyds Chief Executive Eric Daniels will reportedly receive a golden goodbye of £6m- enough to leave some loose change after splashing out on Nikica Jelavic and James Beattie.

The banking industry is facing fierce criticism from politicians as they return to the bonus culture that was put on hold in 2009.

Despite being bailed out by the Government the banking industry is expected to pay out £7bn in bonuses against a background of widespread public spending cuts.

UK banks made a profit of £37bn last year and are expected to return profits of over £50bn this year.

Lloyds who inherited the Rangers and Murray Group account during their takeover of HBOS posted a profit of £5bn last year and are 65% owned by the government after a £260bn buy out of toxic debt in 2009.

Labour’s shadow Chancellor, Alan Johnston said: “This Government came into power with the first paragraph of the coalition agreement saying, ‘We will introduce detailed plans to tackle this issue of bankers’ bonuses,’ when we’re going to get nothing.”

Last month Liberal Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “We have to take robust action on unacceptable bonuses. Both (coalition) parties are fully signed up to that.”

Whilst in opposition Tory George Osborne, now Chancellor,  said: “It would be inexcusable for banks to pay big bonuses when there are so many businesses that need that cash.”

  • jocky bhoy says:

R*ngers should be thanking Lloyds on bended knee – it was the politically motivated selling of HBOS and their dodgy loans (to the Huns amongst others) to Lloyds that prompted a lot of Lloyds troubles. They’d have been well within their rights to call in any of the loans they inherited.

    They havenae got a scooby….

  • Dearie me, TrueBlue is still hurtin’ and bad at that.
The reason why us tims seem to be talking alot about yer dodgy dealings is cause yer dodgy dealer of a chairman has the media under wraps and somehow isn’t scrutinised that any other would be.
How come is it that you claim to know facts and tims in jail when your so obviously keen to ignore the clear failings of your own team, is bigotry something which blinds you?
As with child abuse and Celtic, i think you’ll find that child abuse is something which affects every aspect of every race, religion etc but you lot think that by using it against Celtic fans is any better than the hedious crime itself. Pathetic.

The true extent of Murry,s and Rearangers debt has still to come out.Once the tax man has his day in court we might know how much they are in debt to.
The Scottish press might actually be doing us a favor by keeping the true extent of there debt hidden hoping it goes away.
What have rearangers got to sell anyway as far as am lead to believe they have no media rights no shops no carpark no food outlets no security all sold of by minty.
As for Murry park not owned by Rearangers anyway.

A loan taken out in the full knowledge that not only have the recipients no possible way of paying it back , but also had absolutely no intention of repaying the loan in the first place, then totally refusing to repay the said loan when required to do so.
