The legend of Lambert crushes Ipswich

|

Paul Lambert Celtic newsPaul Lambert last night praised his players extraordinary display after demolishing Ipswich 5-1 at Portman Road.

After winning the home derby 4-1 Norwich were expecting a night of tension against an Ipswitch side harbouring outside hopes of snatching a play-off place.

There were no sign of promotion nerves however as Lambert’s side destroyed Ipswich with the reputation of the former Celtic midfielder growing on a week by week basis.

“I thought my team were extraordinary, the football they played,” Lambert said. “No game is easy and you have to earn the right to win football matches but was incredible right from the off.

“We were up against a team which has been on fire lately and a vibrant crowd. To come here and do what we have done was a big, big test of character and the performance was excellent.”

“The thing is noticeable is they are playing without fear.

“At this stage of the season, it may get a bit edgy, but the way the lads are going at the minute is extraordinary.”

Lambert was involved in plenty of dramatic derbies during his time at Celtic and watched Norwich go two up after half an hour to take the sting out of Paul Jewell’s side.

Jimmy Bullard did manage to get the score back to 3-1 but the visitors refused to ease up and scored their fifth goal in stoppage time to move back into the second automatic promotion place.

Third placed Cardiff are at home to QPR tomorrow with Norwich now favourites to accompany QPR into the top flight with back-to-back promotions under Lambert’s leadership.
