Paul McBride QC: Internet threats can result in jail sentences

|

Paul McBride QC Celtic newsPaul McBride has revealed that he anticipated the reaction to getting involved with Neil Lennon and has warned internet abusers that they face going to jail.

The QC and Trish Godman have been sent mail bombs in a campaign that has shocked people throghout the world and brought Scotland’s sectarian problem under a worldwide miscroscope.

While police chase the instigators of the bomb campaign three young footballers face court action for their on-line behaviour.

Berwick have sacked u-17 captain Kieran Bowell with Josh Horne of St Mirren, Clyde’s Max McKee and Dean McLean of Motherwell being investigated for comments of facebook and twitter.

McBride won’t attend Sunday’s Rangers-Celtic match at Ibrox and isn’t surprised that he is now a target for the extremists.

“I accept that when I put my head above the parapet I would be subjected to the usual sort of bile,” he admitted. “And I got that and some.

“To get to the stage where I could be killed for expressing a viewpoint is frankly beyond anything you could expect to happen in this country.

“This individual must understand that you can never silence people in a democracy with bombs. People will not be silenced and I will certainly not hesitate to speak my mind.

“The irony for me is that I have represented some of the worst murderers and child killers in this country and have received nothing but praise for being a decent lawyer.

“You represent someone who has done nothing wrong and you are in receipt of the vilest abuse imaginable.”

Turning his attention to internet abuse McBride believes that the perpretators could find themselves jailed for upto five years.

He added: “I find it extremely depressing that there are people out there who would celebrate the idea of a mail bomb blowing up and going into someone’s face, and taking out their eyes, and blowing their hands off.

“It seems almost beyond comprehension that any rational individual could support that kind of activity.

“As I understand it, the Solicitor General for Scotland, Frank Mulholland, has made it clear recently that he intends – with the support of the Scottish Parliament – to make it an offence which is indictable, which means instead of a potential six months’ imprisonment, you can get up to five years in prison for that kind activity on the internet.”

The scum who support these actions deserve to be jailed as much as the scum who send the bombs out. They are so retarded that they either have no idea that the danger is there for a load of people before the target or maybe they don’t care. Either way they are showing that they are the most cowardly scum on earth. Idiots of this nature though are too stupid to keep their mouths shut and someone knows who is responsible. They will want to brag and will be caught. Rangers claim their fans are unjustly accused of being animals!! They should be forced to play behind closed doors for a season!

  • Joe says:

With these young so called footballers being brought to justice, what about the idiot who made the comment in the Alloa newspaper? What they did was incite trouble and terrorism. They should be jailed too. It will be interesting to see if the cops handle this one the way they should.

    Joe

You cant help but have a go at Rangers fans as a whole over this??

As a Rangers fan I hope which ever lunatic nutcase is doing this is caught and quickly, however to blame an entire support is just ridculous

    No surprise though

  • Joe says:

Really Scooter? You don’t think there is a connection? You typify why there is a problem.

You have your head so far up your backside that you refuse to see the problem, hence, you will never clean it up. Look at the facts. Uefa have Rangers on the hook for constantly bringing the game in Europe into disrepute, and currently await trial.

The problems with what is being labelled as “old firm” fans only started when we took ownership of Rangers in 2011 and only stopped when we were instructed to give you a win in the league cup final, to avoid more carnage!

Now, bullets, and bombs are being sent to people only connected to Celtic, not rangers, but Celtic. tell me scooter, who do you blame?

Even alcoholics have to admit they have a problem to fix it! As for your final “no surprise” comment, you just confirmed what I said. Whle you have a few good fans, they are in a minority.

Sadly, the shame of the country make up the majority and until you, and the board at ibrox face facts, it isn’t going to change.

This is a well timed attempt to make sure we don’t win the league, even though we are miles ahead in class. You have a bunch of scum following your outfit, you may well not be one of them, and if not, face the facts. You are the minority.

  • Scooter says:

I think your phrase “Instructed to give you a win in the league cup final” shows how far gone you are Joe

    What a statement that is

You are correct Joe, the ENTIRE Rangers support (sorry majority) are googling how to make Nail bombs as we speak

    Madness

You “Own” Rangers that much, I believe that is no trophies this decade, why let the facts get in the way of you though Joe eh?

I look forward to the “minority” of Celtic fans celebrating a terrorist organisation on Sunday

The Irony wont be lost on most

  • Frank McGaaaaaaarvey! says:

    Skitter,

Condemnation of a ‘terrorist’ organisation? (Remember, one man’s terrorist, etc) Fair enough, but no comments to make on the blue hordes glorification of paramilitary loyalism?

The fact that hundreds of convicted sectarian murderers make their way across the sea to attend Owebrox (and commit the odd murder as well while they are over) doesn’t make your comments seem a little hypocritical now?

Nah, for you to admit that would be too much like ‘surrender’ now eh?

  • rfc+sfa=cheats says:

scooter…… i agree with you, its not all rangers fans, some have spoken out, however it was a huge majority of rangers fans at the cup final that were spouting hatred, racism and sectarianism, they were then PRAISED by the police, PRAISED by their club and PRAISED by scotlands politicians! all that praise came despite the government summit insisting these issues should and would be harshly dealt with after rangers players lost control by man-handling a referee, screaming abuse at him, elbowing a celtic physio and again spouting hatred, racism and sectarianism. then this easter sunday glasgow derby had a huge majority of rangers fans chanting “whats it like to live in fear”, not a few of them, MOST of them. not to mention the thousands who joined in to sing the racist famine song. so i agree its not all rangers fans, however it is a huge majority that were at ibrox that clearly do condone it and very few that condemn it and fewer still who would openly condemn it. anyway thank you for your condemnation.
