Glasgow City Council are set to honour Aiden McGeady by renaming a street in his name.
The former Celtic flying machine was born and brought up in the city before making a £9m move to Spartak Moscow last summer.
Glasgow is already twinned with the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don with the honour for McGeady seen as an initial move towards more formal links with the Russian capital.
A proposal from the council’s Roads Department backed by Strathclyde Police has nominated the renaming of Carmunock Road as Aiden McGeady Way.
McGeady was a regular traveller along that road commuting between his home in Thorntonhall and Celtic Park.
A spokesman for the city said: “Aiden is the most high profile sportsman to emerge from the city in recent years and it’s only right that his contribution to Glasgow and indeed Scottish life is recognised.
“We have got good relations with Rostov-on-Don and are hoping to create a similar relationship with Moscow which would be of mutual benefit.
“Sport is a great communicator and allows young people to develop better relations and that can only be for the good of the all concerned.”

I smell sh**e…. what date is it Joe?
APRIL FOOOL!!!
I can just imagine a ‘walk’ being re-routed down Carmunock road to commemorate this idea lol
Great idea. I think it would be better suited to rename Paisley Road West after him though.
Hahaha only realised towards the end. Stitch up!
The phrase “Aiden McGeady Way” gave the game away. Up until that, you really had me goin.
Wonder how long I would have gone on if you had written “McGeady Street” or “Aiden Road”?
All that nonsense about Rostov and so on…very clever !
Ya chancer !
