Former Celt Brian McLaughlin´s life will be remembered at Ochilview, Stenhousemuir tomorrow with a charity match between St Mungo´s (Falkirk) FP´s and Dukla Puperston.

McLaughlin was found dead in the Union Canal near his home in August 2009 with his friends eager to keep his memory alive.

St Mungo´s have been able to call in Celtic youth coach Stevie Frail to bolster their squad with former Celt Stevie Fulton and Falkirk legend Kevin McAllister also recruited.

Included in the Dukla squad are Jim Duffy, Gerry McCabe and Gerry Collins. Dukla will be managed by Tony Roper which should set up some interesting touchline clashes with the charismatic Tommy Campbell who´ll manage St Mungo´s FP´s.

Campbell has been employed in virtually every role at St Johnstone and has the unique claim to fame of having managed Forfar, Arbroath and Montrose. During his stint at Forfar they wore a revolutionary green and white hooped away shirt.

McLaughlin was assistant to Campbell at the time with another former Celt, John Sludden looking forward to celebrating the life of a close friend.

The Celtic u-17 coach said : “Brian was a good friend and his death is still felt by everyone that knew him. He was a true gentleman and loved his football.

“Playing a match in his honour for a local charity is a fitting way to remember him. It’s great to have people like Stevie Frail and Kevin McAllister turning out and it’s always entertaining when Dukla provide the opposition.”

McLaughlin was rated as one of Celtic´s best ever prospects but never recovered from a brutal challenge on him from Clyde´s Willie McVie.

Those that were there claim that they never saw Jock Stein so emotional as when he saw the damage done to McLaughlin´s knee and career.

After leaving Celtic in 1977 he moved to Ayr United but enjoyed his best spell at Motherwell alongside Brian McClair as Davie Hay´s side stormed to the 1982 First Division championship.

Tomorrow´s match kick´s off at 1pm with admission by a two pound donation. All money raised will go to Strathcarron Hospice in Denny.
