Liam Miller Perth Glory newsFormer Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson can’t wait to start working with Liam Miller.

The midfielder quit Hibs at the end of last season and signed a two year deal with Perth Glory and will make his debut against Celtic on Saturday.

Seven years ago Miller was about to start life at Manchester United with Ferguson expecting big things from his new signing.

“I’m hoping he’s going to be one of our playmakers,” the Perth Glory boss admitted. “ He’s got a great engine, he’s up and down the park and everybody I’ve spoken to has given him rave reports.

“You don’t play for Man United if you’re any kind of mug. I think Australia will be very surprised when they see Liam play.

“We were lacking energy and mobility at times and we’re trying to get that now. We’ve brought in a few players in who will hopefully give us that, from the full-backs to the midfield and even up front.”

Miller added: “It’s very exciting for me, I’m really looking forward to this. I think the most important factor for me was the football, which I’m really excited about.

“I’m sure it will be a good standard and I’m sure it will be a tough league, but a nice league to play in as well.”

Celtic boss Neil Lennon added: “When Liam first burst on to the scene at Celtic he had a meteoric rise. Then he went off to United and his career probably didn’t pan out the way people thought it would’ve but he’s still got a lot of quality.

“He’ll be a good signing and it’s a bit of a coup for Perth to get him. I’ve known Liam a long time and he had couple of seasons at Hibs where he played very, very well. He’s a very good player.”

Liam Miller COULD have been a very good player. He isn’t. He allowed his agent to turn his head and let his greed take over his career, which as so often happens, took a nosedive.

If Miller had listened to Martin O’Neil he would have been a superstar today, probably as the controller in the Manchester Utd midfield.

If he is being honest with himself, he will know these are the plain facts of what might have been. What a waste of incredible talent. He reminds me in some ways of another great talent, George Connolly, but at least his demise was due to a personal nature because of a cheating wife! Miller’s problem was pure greed. A waster.

  • Shug says:

Are you replying to your own articles Joe? 😀

  • Joe McHugh says:

Not me Shug although with a Joe and a Shug replying to this it may look that way!

Apart from Henrik for his own reasons no-one at Celtic is likely to turn down an offer from Man Utd- especially when you are on less than £1,000 a week and the club is in no rush to renew your contract.

Miller was around at the same time as Shaun Maloney and John Kennedy- one injury and you are gubbed and I doubt many Celtic fans would have turned down Man Utd.

Celtic are much smarter now with contracts- no young player has a contract that ends at the age of 23, fees have been picked up for Simon Ferry, Paul Caddis etc etc.

Good one Shug, but different Joe. I have added a G now for clarification though!

Not sure I agree with you Joe, (McHugh), Miller did the dirty on Celtic. I guess we have many opinions, but I certainly lost respect for him.

I don’t know all the facts about Miller’s move to Man.Utd. either….but I was left feeling that he booted us in the nuts……
As for his new boss…now there’s someone I’d like to boot in the nuts…..
Does anyone remember a mid-week game at CP…when he drove the ball as hard as he could into the Stand…with the obvious intention of hurting someone….moron.

  • Mojiebhoy says:

I fail to see how he did the dirty on us. He served his contract and played well for us till the end. Bad play be our upper management, they dropped the ball. Hopefully they learned from it and if anything it might be a deterent against it happening again.
