Former Celtic director Brian Dempsey has gone into voluntary bankruptcy over a £5m battle with the Bank of Scotland.
Dempsey was the public face of Fergus McCann’s takeover bid in 1994 and was a regular on television on radio explaining the club’s problems and the solutions that were required.
With Celtic facing bankruptcy from the Bank of Scotland he brought in Fergus McCann to save the club with £1m being put ito the club’s account with Michael Kelly and co kicked off the board of directors.
Faced with another battle with the same bank now owned by Lloyds/TSB the Cayman Island’s based businessman filed for bankruptcy in June of this year.
In a statement issued to The Sun today a spokesman for Dempsey said: ““Brian Dempsey went into voluntary sequestration.
“This followed months of debate at the Court of Session during which the Bank of Scotland failed to produce the relevant documents involving an alleged £5million loan which they claim was made.”
Within months of the takeover Dempsey and McCann had fallen out with the property developer leaving the club.
