Kris Commons Celtic newsNeil Lennon has revealed that Kris Commons will be fit for Sunday’s SPL clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The midfielder was replaced by Daryl Murphy after 75 minutes of last night’s 2-0 defeat from Swansea.

Commons has had an injury interrupted pre-season but Lennon is confident that the former Derby man will be fit to face Aberdeen.

“Kris is fine,” the Celtic boss said. “He’s had an infection in his toe and the strapping came off it.

“When it was put back on it was just too pressurised on his toe for him to continue but he should be able to play on Sunday. It’s not a major issue= which is a relief.

“He looked bright tonight, the brightest he’s looked since we came back. He looked more like himself.”

Lennon did confirm that Glenn Loovens could be out for a month after pulling his left hamstring in training on Monday.

The Celtic boss added: “It was a strange one with Glenn. He felt his hamstring go in training and it will put him out for three or four weeks.”

Lennon’s most immediate concern is the goalkeeping position with Monday August 8 the deadline for the Europa League draw.

Celtic will find out their opponents tomorrow with the matches being played on August 18 and 25.

Asked about the search for a new keeper Lennon admitted: “We’re no nearer to getting someone in, although I’m aware of the Europa League deadline.

“It would be good to get someone in before Monday. We’ve got options, but we’re no further down the line.”
