Neil Lennon has laughed off speculation linking Celtic with a move for Joey Barton.
Some bookmakers had Celtic priced at 3/1 to sign the wayward Newcastle midfielder who is available on a free transfer from St James’ Park.
Newcastle announced that Barton was available on a free transfer earlier in the week after the players continued criticism of the club on his twitter account.
Asked about the prospects if a move to Celtic Lennon admitted: “ “I would have to re-mortgage the club!”
Barton joined Newcastle for £6m from Manchester City in 2007 and is believed to be earning more than £50,000 a week.
With a year left on his contract Newcastle have made him available on a free transfer but unless the deal is right the midfielder could sit out the final season of his contract.
