Tony Mowbray Middlesbrough newsDarren O’Dea’s troubles continued yesterday as Leeds lost 1-0 at home to Middlesborough with three former team-mates on the winning side.

The aftermatch banter was probably a little flat as Scott McDonald, Stephen McManus and Barry Robson headed back to the Riverside with three points leaving Leeds pointless and manager Simon Grayson under pressure.

Grayson was furious at the sending’s off for Max Gradel and Jonny Howson whilst Tony Mowbray took the red card for Tony McMahon on the chin.

The ‘Boro boss said: “It was a game of swinging emotions and frustrations, but we’ll put it behind us very quickly as we have the points.

“How referees decide to manage football matches is probably decided before they start. When I came to watch Leeds and Middlesbrough in the 1970s there seemed to be a sending-off every game.

“It’s a fantastic atmosphere to play football in and I think it over-hypes the players. My own personal view is the referee had a difficult day.”

In League One Niall McGinn was substituted at half-time with Brentford drawing 0-0 away to Sheffield United, the switch didn’t help the visitors with Uwe Rossler’s side losing to two second half goals.
