Europa League Celtic newsAthletico Madrid will give 40m striker Radamel Falcao his debut away to Valencia tomorrow ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Celtic.

Falcao was signed from Porto during the summer and has the daunting task of replacing Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan who left Madrid during the summer.

The 25-year-old Columbian missed Athletico’s only league match of the season- a goal-less draw with Osasuna- due to a registration hold up on his move from Porto.

Falcao should be joined in the Athletico side by Diego who was signed on a season long loan from Wolfsburg on the final day of the transfer window.

New Athletico coach Gregorio Manzano said: “The team is ready to compete against any opponent. Maybe from the point of view of the most recent signings there lacks a little bit of cohesion, which is logical.

“There are players who barely know each other in the changing room, for example they’ve only recently met Falcao and Diego and (Arda) Turan.

“It takes time to adapt and understand each other on the pitch. I would like that the team is above any single player and against Valencia the team shows its personality.”
