Scott Brown Celtic newsScott Brown won’t have his troublesome ankle operated on- and is expected to be back in the Celtic team to play Hearts on October 2.

The midfielder has been bothered by an ankle injury for almost two years and had to be substituted during Sunday’s defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.

Neil Lennon is Brown’s No. 1 fan but won’t rush his skipper back before getting the green light from the medics.

The Celtic boss said: “The injury needs rest and our medical team have targeted the match away to Hearts as one that he could be fit for.

“He keeps coming back and it’s not getting enough chance to settle- it keeps going in games which is a blow for us and a blow for him.

“I don’t think that it’s severe enough to need an operation. I think that it’s a sprain that hasn’t really settled, the only way that it will settle is to shut him down for a wee while.

“He was fit to play against Rangers, he trained well on Saturday and for the first hour he was playing very well. He had a hand in both goals then he went in for a block tackle and felt the ankle go again and we had to take him off almost immediately.”
