Ki Sung Yeung scoresKi Sung-Yeung has been nominated as Celtic’s new penalty taker.

Gary Hooper and Kris Commons have already missed penalties this season with Anthony Stokes and Georgios Samaras also failing since the turn of the year.

Celtic were awarded penalties in both league games at Ibrox last season with Ki on duty today if Craig Thomson points to the penalty spot.

Neil Lennon told the Sunday Mail: “If we had been awarded a penalty in midweek against Atletico Madrid then Ki would have taken it.

“We basically just nominate a player and if they fancy it they take it. Usually it’s a striker but Anthony has missed a couple and so has Gary, Sami and Kris.

“I think even Fraser Forster has missed a couple! But I would imagine technicians like Ki, Joe Ledley, Charlie Mulgrew and even Scott Brown would fancy it.

“Scott fancies himself as a penalty taker although I have yet to see it!”

Lennon’s former team-mate Paul Lambert has suffered similar spot-kick misery this season with Norwich conceding a penalty in all five Premiership matches this season although Martin Petrov’s goal for Bolton yesterday didn’t prevent the Canaries from enjoying their first win of the new season.
