Sion news Controversial Sion President Christian Constantin is ready to go to war with UEFA even if it leads to all Swiss clubs being thrown out of European competitions and the expulsion of the national team from Euro 2012.

UEFA’s decision to expel the Swiss cheats for fielding ineligible players in both legs of their Europa League play-off with Celtic was anticipated by Constantin who has his club’s appeal already in place.

Sion will appeal to UEFA and if they aren’t reinstated will take their case to the Lausanne based Court of Arbitration for Sport as well as to the Swiss civil courts.

Swiss newspaper Tribune de Geneve interviewed Constantin after today’s verdict with the question and answers listed below.

Tribune de Geneve: Christian Constantin, how do you welcome the exclusion of FC Sion of the Europa League, with two matches against Celtic given package lost 0-3 both times?

Christian Constatin: This is exactly the process that I expected: a decision made on Friday evening, without explanation. The explanation will arrive early next week and we will challenge. I myself am also prepared. Only now that the game will begin …

TdG: You are going to strike back against?

CC: On Monday, I start proceedings in civil courts to request superprovisionnelles measures, so that the rights of FC Sion and its players are met.

TdG: Do you feed a sense of injustice?

CC: Not even. But we’ll see if the justice of this country, a strong decision by one of its courts, may take over the ego of FIFA and UEFA. Because for now, we ignored the decisions of a judge.

TdG: Will you send the same judge, in Martigny, which has already taken a positive decision for your six players transferred this summer?

CC: I see.One or more civil courts can be entered. As it relates to the players, the Cartel Act, the law on the organization of competitions. I did not wait the decision of UEFA to prepare. I am ready, in the timing.

TdG: Do you also sue for damages?

CC: This is yet another piece of this issue, which I will discuss later. We must first deal with the substance.

TdG: Do you not fear that other clubs or even the Swiss national team and then be penalized by FIFA and UEFA because of your actions in court, as both entities have suggested?

CC: It is precisely a case of stress and I fight against these criminal threats there. I am ready to fight. Long time. I have a court order is supposed to be sovereign, not? Not to comply would violate the Constitution.

  • Mark says:

finally a bit of justice for our club, even if it is a bit of sour fortune since theyre not even a very good team anyway with those signings. i hope they rot, and rot, and rot under punishments for this. such a bad example for other clubs, if they got away with this theres no doubt others would try it if they got into a similar situation. what makes it so much more irritating is that he feels his club are innocent just because he thinks he found a good loophole with a swiss judge. no christian, you broke the rules. YOU’RE at fault, and you’re paying for it, and we win 🙂 HA

I was at the away game….3-0 doesn’t do us justice …we were awesome.
From the minute Big Dan headed us in front from a Fraser Forster cross I knew we were on our way….
this was quickly followed by Stokes being unselfish and giving the ball to Hooper to stroke home after Stokes had beaten the entire Sion team ….
finally Sammi got his reward for a tremendous display at Centre Back …it started with him heading the ball onto his own crossbar…spinning round …and as the ball dropped onto his own 18 yard line …he smashed it on the volley the entire length of the pitch …and into the Sion keeper’s top left hand corner….
    What a night …what a victory….what a load of twaddle….
    good night.

  • Mike Bhoyle as the add says priceless.dont look a gift horse in the mouth bhoy.

  • Gavin says:

Sion Cheated…..End of story. (Mind you, lucky it wasnt the SFA listening to the case) We all know where that would have led us…..Probably would have put Ran*ers thru to replace us.

  • Jack says:

I like how he fails to mention the Court of Arbitration for Sport through his appeal out before he ran to a local court in Switzerland

  • Stevie says:

The best way to deal with situation was at the time of the first round, uefa should just have said 3 nil win to celtic why leave it to after the second round and an appeal from Celtic. If Celtic hadn’t appealed would everything been alright.

    • colin garvey says:

totally agree Stevie they shouldn’t have been allowed in europa league in the first place someone in UEFA wasn’t doing there job right when qualifiers were drawn
