Martin O'NeillMartin O’Neill is the early favourite to replace Sven Goran Eriksson as Leicester City manager.

The Championship side sacked Eriksson earlier today with punters piling in to back O’Neill to return to the club he quit in 2000 for a remarkable five year stint at Celtic.

The decision to sack Eriksson came after Leicester lost 3-0 at home to Millwall on Saturday leaving the club in 13th place with 19 points from 13 matches.

O’Neill has been linked with a number of jobs since quitting Aston Villa on the eve of the 2010/11 season and was one of the favourites for the Nottingham Forest job after another former England manager, Steve McClaren was sacked.

The odds on O’Neill taking over at Leicester have been tumbling all day with the former Celtic boss down to ½ with Hills at 8pm tonight after starting the day off priced at 7/2.

Championship specialist, and a former Leicester player, Billy Davies has also attracted plenty of interest and is generally available at 7/2 for the Leicester job.

Dave Jones, Nigel Worthington and Huddersfield’s Lee Clark have all attracted backers but the return of O’Neill is the outcome that the bookies are fearing most.

Neil Lennon, another former Leicester player, was priced at 20/1 by Ladbrokes with his former team-mate and media lovey Robbie Savage a 66/1 bet with Gary Lineker rated at 100/1 to take over from Eriksson.
