Malky Mackay Cardiff newsMalky Mackay woke up to the biggest ticket nightmare of his life this morning after steering Cardiff City into the final of the Carling Cup.

Manchester City or Liverpool will provide the finalĀ opposition with the former Celtic defender delighted at the prospect of leading his side out at Wembley.

A penalty shoot-out win over Crystal Palace booked Cardiff’s place in the final with the Welsh side also well placed to ensure at least a play-off place at the end of the season.

Swansea have been stealing most of the football headlines in Wales this season but with 40,000 fans preparing to head to Wembley Mackay was ecstatic as he relived last night’s triumph.

“I was delighted with the way we went about our business,” the Baillieston bhoy stated. “I was very proud of them.

“It’s obviously a lottery when it goes to penalty kicks but I had great belief in their ability and spirit to keep going.

“I’m delighted for the group of players, I’m delighted for the football club tonight.

“You look all the way through the competition, from Oxford when we had 10 players missing through international duty to tonight where it was always going to be tough, we’ve shown character and spirit.

“Tonight another little bit of history has been made for this football club.

“It’s terrific for everyone at the football club and everyone should embrace it.”

Delighted to see Malky’s team qualify for the final, they certainly deserved to make it over the 2 legs. Mackay did a great job with Watford and is now doing a fabulous job with Cardiff and good luck to them
