Greig Spence Celtic newsLoan bhoys Greig Spence and Josh Thompson were on target for Hamilton and Chesterfield yesterday.

Spence netted after 46 minutes after Ayr had gone in 2-0 up at half-time with Daniel Redmond equalising in the 53 minute but there were no further goals.

The draw leaves Hamilton sitting in fifth place in the First Division, a point behind Partick Thistle who drew at home with Dundee in a match featuring five former Celtic players with both sides managed by former Celts.

In League One Thompson was the hero for Chesterfield as John Sheridan’s side won their first match since September with a 2-1 win at Colchester.

All of the goals came in the first half with Chesterfield five points adrift of the safety zone with 19 games still to be played.

In the same division Niall McGinn’s Brentford lost 3-2 away to Huddersfield with Jordan Rhodes netting the winner- his 14th goal in his last seven matches.

Up a level in the Championship Darren O’Dea and Daryl Murphy were in direct opposition with Leeds beating Ipswich 3-1 at home.

Richie Towell was an unused substitute as Hibs lost 3-2 at home to St Johnstone.
