Rabui Ibrahim Celtic newsCeltic new bhoy Rabiu Ibrahim has revealed the reason that he left PSV Eindhoven- Ola Toivonen.

Ibrahim had a three year contract with the Dutch club but left Eindhoven in December less than a year into that deal.

Neil Lennon handed the Nigerian a three and a half year contract last week with the player anxious to make an impact at Celtic after finding his development halted by the Swedish captain of PSV.

Ibrahim told The Sun: “It was unfortunate that at PSV my direct competition was the captain, Toivonen. He’s a great player, an experienced international.

“However, I do believe with good guidance I’ll get my chance here to prove myself at Celtic.

“I believe I will do that. I had a three-year contract at PSV, yes, but I had to leave because I was not getting playing time. We reached an agreement that I’d be allowed to go somewhere to get regular football.

“When I joined PSV, they liked me a lot but it was difficult for the coach to pick me ahead of the captain, playing in my position.”

I see Rabiu’s been in a few newspapers telling eveybody what he’s going to do for Celtic. I hope he’s a big success. However, I wish that he’d just wait and do his talking on the pitch.

He’ll be doing well to replace any of our boys in the middle here too. Too much talk from a boy who has yet to prove himself at a level other than under age. Hope he does, looks like he’s a talent, if he can hold the head.

He might have the same prob at the Hoops !.There is alot of good AMF players at the club right now.

I don’t think he has a problem, I think others will be looking over there shoulders, did age keep Victor take long in forcing his way into the team,

Young Matthews another we have a young team if you look at there ages, we can only get stronger go back to the great years look at there ages, I say give them a chance if your good enough let them loose, at lest we have not the indignity of our foes, big headlines then the baloon gets bust, always look on the bright side of life

sounds promising, if he’s anything like naka then i’m delighted, hopefully he gets a chance to show his stuff, the chance that juarez didnt get.

  • Young Alan Vincent says:

He looks like a young Eddie Murphy I like what am seeing

  • James says:

Wouldn’t worry too much about him talking to the press at the moment, bear in mind that he is new to the Glasgow goldfish bowl and scottish journalist hacks so probably doesn’t think about it too much.

Maybe someone more experienced at the club (I would argue this is the captains responsibility) should take the lad aside and give him a few pointers about the scottish journo hack pack before he says something completely innocent and has it twisted into a media circus, most likely around a time when r*****rs are being bent over by HMRC or the likes

Can’t believe the “space ” this guy is getting to plead his case….
There are young players on our books who have been there for years and are only looking for a chance to shine.
My info. on this player is ,he has had a “chequered” career , to put it mildly.
My advice to him is…. shut up son…we’ve heard it all before….
Go on the park and prove you’re worthy of the jersey….and if you do that…..
then you can talk as much as you like….
    until then…..sssshhhh.

    • PJarvis says:

I quite agree, can nobody at the club get a hold of new players and tell them to keep it schtum?

How many have came in and ran their mouths off, only to not produce it on the park?

I also agree with James’s sentiments, the PR department should be having a word with him about what he says and who he says it to.

Talking should be done on the pitch and only on the pitch. Any questions from the press pack should be straight batted

  • Johnp says:

I don’t know why most Celtic players are allowed to talk to the media in Scotland (contractual obligations of some kind?). Celtic should choose 2 or 3 players, get the PR department to give them ‘training’ on dealing with the media and then allow these players to speak. Brown as Captain should be one. The others should only be allowed to give interviews to football magazines not based in Scotland. The Record, Sun, Scotsman etc should be limited to Pravda-esque communiques.
