Craig Whyte Rangers tax caseTicketus have emerged as the main backers for Paul Murray’s Blue Knights consortium.

Despite widespread publicity for Murray’s takeover attempt no individual has put their name forward despite the threat of liquidation hanging over Rangers. Three of the various supporter groupings have given their support to Murray’s consortium.

Ticketus were widely criticised for funding Craig Whyte’s takeover which required £18m to pay off the club debt to Lloyds TSB.

Whyte initially demied that he had used Ticketus funds for his takeover but later confirmed that he had received £24m with Ticketus repaid through season ticket money over four seasons.

With the clubs merchandising and catering sold off on long term deals ticket money is about the only income stream that Rangers have left. Having sold off over 20,000 season tickets for the next three seasons the opportunities to generate income for new oweners is extremely limited.

Announcing their support for the Murray consortium a Ticketus statement read: “We believe that the Blue Knights understand very clearly what needs to be done to stabilise the Club, and represent the most attractive long-term solution to Rangers’ financial situation.

“We are therefore backing their bid and will be an active partner, contributing to a successful outcome. We believe working alongside the Blue Knights and fans’ representatives offers the best chance of the Club surviving and becoming a viable business.”

Administrators Duff and Phelps are hoping to push through a sale of the club later this month but with a number of investigations going on and a potential tax bill of £50m on the horizon it’s highly unlikely that Rangers will be out of administration in time to compete in UEFA competitions next season.

How can Ticketus be a owner when they lend to other clubs and how can P Murray be allowed to buy when he was on the board when they didn’t pay tax all these years.

If they form a newco it wont be 1 because he was a director of old so I don’t think he can be a fit and proper person either Scottish football so funny

  • The buns think that they in the clear and are ready to walk away from all the debt because the players took a pay cut.

They have only bought some time to complete the season, they’re setting themselves up for the big fall even with a buyer dosen’t mean anything remember the ‘motherwell billionaire with wealth off the planet’ look how that worked out.

    Hail Hail
