John Kennedy Celtic newsCeltic’s youth team face Kilmarnock today, kick-off 1pm Lennoxtown hoping to keep the pressure up on league leaders Hearts.

Both sides have won every game since Hearts beat Celtic at Barrowfield in November with the Edinburgh side seven points ahead having played two games more.

Celtic play one of their postponed matches against Motherwell on Tuesday, kick-off 1pm at Bathgate, but John Kennedy can’t allow his players to think beyond today’s clash.

“Kilmarnock are a decent side that like to play football,” the hoops coach warned. “They have a few players that have caught the eye this year and won 4-1 at St Johnstone in their last match.

“We won 2-1 at St Johnstone and found it very difficult, in the end we had to grind the result out.

“Every game is different, we’ve beaten Kilmarnock twice this season but we’ll show the same attitude and if we show the work rate and application our ability should make the difference.”

Celtic’s last outing was a 5-0 win at Inverness Caley Thistle last Friday where Liam Gormley was amongst the scorers.

The former Motherwell striker had been out for a lengthy period but with the season entering a critical stage Kennedy is pleased to see his squad getting close to full strength with Mikey Miller and Paul George both available today.

“We’ve had a few injuries over recent months so it’s great to see players coming back,” Kennedy added. “We’ve got a good squad to pick from and the players that have come in have gained good experience.

“Paul (George) and Michael (Miller) are both back training and looking sharp which gives us a good headache as coaches.

“We’ve got a few options over who starts and who is on the bench. Whoever is on the bench is capable of coming on and doing a job.”

Hearts play St Johnstone at Stirling University with a 12 noon kick-off.
