Midfielder John Herron was delighted to find the net as Celtic picked up the SFA Youth Cup with a commanding 8-0 win over Queen of the South at Hampden.
Herron tucked away his 12th goal of the season as the hoops midfield grabbed all the goals with Callum McGregor (3), Dylan McGregor (2), Jackson Irvine and Filip Twardzik also on target.
John Kennedy has a wealth of talent to select from in that area of the park ‘forcing’ Herron out of his preferred central role.
Any midfielder that hits double figures in the scoring charts is entitled to be happy with their lot but despite striking form from the right side the Coatbridge bhoy still sees his future elsewhere on the park.
“My main position is centre midfield but if they want me to play out on the right or on the left I’ll do it,” he admitted. “It’s not my preferred position but I’ll play there.
“For me it’s just about playing games and winning trophies for Celtic. When I scored my goal it was a phenomenal feeling, we were 4-0 up but when Dylan McGeough and Callum McGregor moved the ball forward I got away from one centre half, the ball got played through and I put it away in the corner.
“I practise situations like that every day in training, that’s what every boy should be working on to make you a better player.
“In front of goal you can’t rush things or blast it, you have to compose yourself, take it easy and tuck it away.”
Celtic’s double winning youths complete their campaign tomorrow at home to Rangers with a 10am kick-off at Lennoxtown, a win will give Kennedy’s side a record points total of 58, two more than Rangers achieved in season 2007/08.

Great player from what I’ve seen and heared , too bad he hasn’t had chance yet in first team think it will come soon for the young star? Surly Celtic must be thinking about putting some these boys on long term deals too keep them from leaving and heading south , am I wrong ?
