Graeme Souness has denied that he is involved in any consortium trying to rescue Rangers.
The already flimsy credibility of Duff and Phelps is approaching breaking point this weekend as yet another of their upbeat announcements looks like proving groundless.
On the day that their preferred bidder Bill Miller walked away from a deal Duff and Phelps suddenly claimed to have three credible bids close to completion.
Accompanying this news it was whispered to favourable ears that some of the bidders had Rangers connections and were recognisable throughout British football.
That led to speculation that Souness may be involved in a bid for the club but the former Ibrox boss couldn’t have been any more emphatic as he killed the rumour stone dead.
“I know rumours have been rife in Scotland but I can’t understand why my name has been mentioned,” Souness stated. “I say that because no one has spoken to me.
“If Brian Kennedy had been getting involved there was a possibility and I emphasise the word possibility of me having some role to play.
“But I spoke to Brian earlier today and it now looks like he’s out of it. I know nothing about the other speculation.”
The current status of Kennedy’s on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off-on-off interest in buying Rangers is currently unknown.
