Martin O'Neill newsMartin O’Neill finds himself back in the spotlight on Sunday as the Premiership title is decided between Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Irishman quickly took Sunderland clear of the relegation dogfight but since losing to Everton in the last eight of the FA Cup there has been a distinct end of season about Sunderland’s performances.

On Sunday Sunderland face Manchester United at home with the criticism of Roberto Mancini ringing in their ears.

After beating Manchester United 1-0 to go top of the table on goal difference Mancini claimed that United’s remaining games against Swansea and Sunderland weren’t as difficult as his own side’s matches against Newcastle and QPR.

O’Neill rarely misses an opportunity and was stung into action by the suggestion of the City boss- pointing out that his side had taken four points out of six from Mancini’s side.

It took me by surprise because I had to check that the teams they (United) have to play beat Manchester City, like Swansea and ourselves,” the former Celtic boss responded to Mancini.

“We have taken four points off Manchester City, but they have actually lost five against us this season. He had obviously forgotten to check the fixtures list properly.

“I will remember it for the next four years. I don’t have an email address for him, but I really thought about sending him one to tell him to keep an eye on what he says in the future.”

O’Neill added: “I don’t know what his insinuation was but if he had any idea about the league at all he would know that the integrity of the league is pretty good.”
