Duff and Phelps Rangers newsDave King has admitted that he played a part in the 12 month transfer embargo that the SFA placed on Rangers last week.

The sanction was imposed due to a number of breaches of the rules with the SFA panel claiming that only match fixing could be treated more seriously.

Rangers appeal against the transfer ban was dismissed last week by a panel chaired by Lord Carloway leading to claims that the club may go to the civil courts to overturn the ruling.

While Rangers have attempted to pin all of the blame on Craig Whyte the SFA highlighted the part played by other directors including King who had a duty to ensure that the club was being properly run.

King is the subject of investigation from the South Africa tax authorities but retains a keen interest in the situation at Rangers.

“The criticism of me is fair,” the admitted to the BBC when asked about the SFA verdict. “But John Greig and John McClelland deserve the utmost praise for hanging around as long as they did in the hope that they could somehow make a contribution.

“It was only once they had become completely isolated that they resigned in the hope that this would be a catalyst for greater scrutiny of Whyte’s actions.

“I know how gutted they both were – they are unsung heroes to my mind and all Rangers fans should know that they put the club first at all times.”

King also claimed that he has a verbal agreement to buy Whyte’s shares despite Charles Green claiming that he had an agreement in place to purchase the shareholding.

I’m sure there are a great deal of people who operate in / around Piebox that are accustomed to handshakes. Proving his case will be more difficult I suspect, but I hope he takes Whyte to court thereby delaying proceedings even further.

Quite how King would pass a fit & proper test is another matter entirely…facing 250+ criminal charges in South Africa…just the kind of director any club would welcome – NOT.
