SPL Celtic newsDundee United have joined Hearts by stating that they will vote no to the request from newclub Rangers to join the SPL on July 4.

Tannadice chairman Stephen Thompson had previously described the vote as a lose-lose situation but has announced that the club will vote no after meeting with suppoorters last night.

With two clubs definitely voting no and others consulting with fans before voting it looks like Kilmarnock are the only club certain to vote for Rangers entry to the SPL.

Last night United issued a statement on their website saying: “Dundee United tonight met with Supporters’ groups to discuss the newco situation prior to the all club vote on the proposal to transfer Rangers share on 4th July.

“Following what was a robust and constructive meeting, the Club’s position on how we will vote was substantiated by the viewpoint of the various supporters groups. The meeting finished with all in agreement as to what the correct course of action would be.

The Board of Directors of Dundee United are unequivocal in the belief that a form of sporting punishment must form part of the reasoning behind any decision made and, therefore, cannot vote the newco into the SPL.

“General sporting integrity and, more importantly, the integrity of Scottish football must also play a significant part in the decision making process. It is our belief that any form of sporting punishment must be unambiguous in the message it displays.

The financial well being of the Club, both in the short and long term, must also be at the forefront of our thoughts. We would encourage our supporters to purchase season ticket books as a show of support to our Club.

“The Board of Directors will act in the best interest of Dundee United and our supporters and Scottish football on this matter. The financial consequences of not showing this support for our Club are extremely serious.”

As well as the votes of Hearts and Dundee United going against Rangers Motherwell and Inverness Caley Thistle announced that they will vote in accordance with a poll amongst their supporters.

All online fan polls have indicated that over 90% of supporters are against any newco being invited into the SPL.

We should ask the teams that vote no for extra tickets for games and make sure we sell out the stadium when the champions come calling and take none for kilmarnock and who ever votes yes. Imo no one else will vote yes as they know what’s going to happen. Hail hail

I think Michael Johnston is taking a gamble, in that, Kilmarock is full of Buns, most Killie fans are buns & when EBT FC go to 3rd Division, how many Buns fans can these stadiums hold? some of them a couple hundred. Lucky if any can take 1000 buns. Third Division is NOT going to be on TV so the Buns that cannae get tickets will follow Killie who supported ra “Bears” in the Newco voting.

It appears that The newco could fail to get off the ground? Are we being presumptious in beginning to believe that the entity that was Rangers or the one that could become something linked to Rangers could be about to be Third Lanarked? Am I just being too hopeful? It has all been very, very funny regardless.

Well done to any smaller clubs that stand up for what’s right.

It’s a disgrace that we are having this New Club who have never played a game of Football being forced down our necks. Let’s spit them out where they belong.

    Keep reminding them they’re dead
