Eight SFL clubs can scupper Regan's Sevco plan

Scottish League newsStewart Regan’s plan to provide Sevco with a parachute into Division One could be scuppered by just eight clubs.

The chief executive of the SFA hasn’t said a word in public since Rangers went into liquidation but has been working behind the scenes to merge the SPL and SFL at breakneck speed.

In return for a package of reforms- which would see television money diverted from the SPL to the SFL- Regan is hoping that he can provide a place for newco in the First Division provided Charles Green can satisfy SFA membership criteria.

Raith Rovers and Falkirk have already voiced their concerns about a deal with all 30 SPL clubs likely to vote on the proposal. If the deal is to go through it will require 75% approval of the clubs meaning that eight no votes would leave Regan with just days to come up with plan C.

The rapid proposals will be discussed by the SFL clubs at Hampden on Tuesday July 4 with support for the reforms compromised by the wish to provide Green’s club with a place in the First Division.

Last night David Longmuir of the SFL admitted: “The SFL board met today to discuss a number of issues currently affecting our game.

“The three governing bodies will continue to work together over the coming days to deliver a way forward which will be in the best interests of our game. Key to that process will be a full consultation with clubs which will take place early next week.

“We didn’t rule anything in and we didn’t rule anything out. The most important aspect of the whole process is to consult with clubs.

“It will be a general club meeting where clubs have the first chance to see the issues we have been dealing with.

“They will debate them and discuss them fully with the board of the SFL and take appropriate action as required.”

I’d have thought it was obvious even to the easily deluded the best they can hope for is to apply for Division 3 with the rest. There are NO special cases, apart from some assets (which could be taken back by BDO) they have absolutely NOTHING to offer…Players, Fanbase, History, Accounts. In all truth they are WAY behind other possible clubs who will also seek election.

Always expected all the main first team players to walk away for hee haw….now the interesting bit. How many of the younger fringe players will accept 3 years in the wilderness, huge pressure of MUST win, potential new administration, sanctions, uncertainty over pay – Guarantee of reduced wages when contract runs out. Any agent / ambitious player will run for the hills.

The 1st division clubs know if the huns are there they can probably forget about promotion and the same for division 2 and 3 so a don’t think they will walk into any league 2012 could be the year oldco and Newco dies. Hail hail

Having grown up in the Glasgow area..I have watched..for 50 years and more…the “establishment” circle the wagons when it comes to Rankers.
    I have a feeling that Dark Forces are at work again..and I won’t believe they’re doomed…until they’re doomed.
It is nauseating watching our “Authorities” bend over backwards to accommodate this Club….
I wonder how Livingston FC..to name but one..must feel about this…Shameful….and…
    Only in Scotland…

Well you friggin well should have ruled out dropping toxic fc into the first division as that is immoral and disgusting to every non sevco 5088 football fan in Scotland but you don’t give a rats arse as your jobs t&c’s seem to be to help toxic fc whenever and where ever you can you twat.

  • I stil hav that uneasy feeling deep in my stomach that the death ov bigot fc may open up even more dirty underhanded handshakes to provide ZOMBIE HUNS the most comfortable transformation, walter waistcoat will emerge as there true leader again, spin spin and more spin will convince the orcs and msm that BIGOT FC are not really dead, i know its shameful thinking but it is Masonic Scotland afterall, i pray that im so wrong it hurts, hail hail, GOD BLESS IE CELTIC+

Newco should just accept their fate & apply for div3 & go with their dignity ( for what’s left of it ) & start a new chapter & fight to the top again if they can?!!

I am of the generation that witnessed first hand outrageous bias towards rangers, well before the era of the ‘honest mistakes’. However, it appears that Scotland is actually sick to the back teeth of them. They have no support from the SPL clubs, except Kilmarnock who will rue the day they allowed their idiot of a chairman to speak for Rangers be included. What makes anyone think that the SFL clubs will allow them to walk into the 1st division? These clubs do not need their money and have lived without it for years. In some cases for ever. I would be very surprised if they were allowed to join the first division, I think they will get into the 3rd but no more. But what entity will join the third division? They have no players. Surely any player worth his salt, whether he is 18 or 33, will be looking to move. McCulloch is finished and has much to gain as a folk hero to the 5-15,000 who will continue to support them. Wallace should be returned to Hearts but needs his head looked at if he is thinking about sticking around. The players have no way of guaranteeing they will get paid every week. Newco look to be heading for administration pretty soon. I still have the feeling that something is getting done in smoke-filled rooms but I think it is the old paranoia, which was not paranoia at all as it turns out, creeping in. I think there is no more than a 50-50 chance of anything which could be connected to the former club Rangers emerging at all. And for people to talk of them gaining promotion to the top flight in 3 years, well, this sounds hugely optimistic. It will take any Newco longer than this to get anywhere near the SPL. Scottish football is just about to change radically.

Am I missing something here? There is to be a vote of the thirty SFL clubs on whether Sevco 88 f.c are allowed into the First Division. Why would the Second or the Third Division clubs vote to miss out on some bumper payday’s from the few thousand Sevco 88 deluded supporters. It’s a no-brainer. There’s at least twenty clubs that will be against their plop into the First Div right away…no?
