Emilio Izaguirre Celtic newsHonduras World Cup campaign got off to the worst possible start last night when they lost 2-0 at home to Panama.

Emilio Izaguirre’s hopes of returning to the World Cup stage in 2014 look to be in danger already after a second half double from FC Dallas striker Blas Perez stunned the expectant home fans.

Honduras now face Canada on Tuesday knowing that a win is virtually essential if they are to progress to the final qualifying stage.

“We have to feel sorry for what happened today, but we can not lower the target already,” coach Luis Fernando Suarez stated. “We have to improve quickly, be positive and realise that we still have possibilities in this group.

“We wanted to win this game but there are times when you play badly but it’s not over, we have to move on and can’t give up.

“Against Canada we have to make drastic changes, both in football and in attitude.”

Canada got their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win away to Cuba.

Victor Wanyama will be in World Cup action this afternoon as Kenya travel to Namibia.

Kenya drew at home last week against Malawi who lost 1-0 away to group favourites Nigeria.

Sierra Leone, featuring Mo Bangura got off to a better start in their Group B qualifiers with a 2-1 win over the Cape Verde Isles.

Bangura’s season will end today away to Equatorial Guinea who lost their opener 3-1 away to Tunisia despite taking the lead.
