The post Rangers age begins for Scottish football

Bye Bye RangersWith the news that HMRC have refused the proposed CVA that Charles Green tried to get them to agree to, the most likely thing to happen next is that Rangers will be liquidated.

I am not a finance expert, or an expert in anything really for that matter, but to keep things relevant, I would like to ask you a question similar to that of which Rangers asked to the HMRC.

If I had to pay you £100 and said that I was struggling a bit for cash, would you accept £9 instead?

I doubt very much that you would so why should the HMRC be expected to? Keep in mind that the tax money pays for things such as education, health care etc. Can the country afford to allow some people to pay 9% of what they should be paying?

The next thing that I have had to laugh at is the amount of ‘tweets’ from Rangers fans who seem to be saying that the rest of Scottish football will die without them. Are these people delusional or are they clutching at straws?

Or, are they correct ?

In my opinion, if a club is so badly managed that survival is based solely on the number of Rangers fans who attend their ground, then they deserve to go under. Do the chairmen of clubs really depend on Rangers so much? Do they not take their own supporter numbers into account?

There was an excellent report from an Aberdeen fan which seems to suggest that they would need an extra 300 fans per home match to compensate for the loss of revenue that Rangers not existing would cost them.

Once again today, I’ve heard that Celtic also need Rangers. Who said that is the case? Our club chief executive, Peter Lawwell, has said in the past that Celtic have a business strategy which is not dependant on other clubs so are these ex Rangers players (Andy Goram and Colin Hendry) accusing him of lying?

I’m not having a go at these two people but if they think that Mr Lawwell is incorrect then surely they should be asked to explain their reasoning otherwise it makes people like me dismiss their opinion as bitter rubbish.

I’ve mentioned Goram Hendry just because they are two people that I have heard interviewed on Sky Sports news today and both are sharing a similar view point. Both men have had their share of financial problems since retiring from the game.

Well, I would say, bring on Scottish football without Rangers and let us find out. I don’t know for sure if Celtic can survive without Rangers but over the last few years, I have grown to trust the club hierarchy.

Don’t get me wrong, I have been critical in the past but hindsight is a wonderful thing. It’s also the only thing that will provide an answer to the question of whether or not Rangers are essential to the survival of Scottish football.

There’s yet another question that nobody can answer but how much healthier would Scottish football be if Rangers had only spent what they could afford to spend over the last 15 to 20 years?

Would it be the case that trophies and prize money would have been more evenly distributed? I think it would have been. I also think that means that all the clubs would have been stronger, thus providing Scottish football with better competition.

At the end of the day, Scottish football really isn’t doing very right now with Rangers so if they go, will it get worse? Let’s find out and let me hold my hands up and be corrected if I am wrong.

Can we survive without them…..without a doubt. Regular entry to the CL, the opportunity to promote more of our talented youths. Also the chance to cherry pick some of their most promising young players.

Not so long ago it was Celtic & Aberdeen for all the major honours, with Dundee Utd throwing in a wee challenge….Rangers were nowhere, seems we survived ok.

I see no difference today…we MUST make the most of this opportunity though and really build for the future.

I’d have no hesitation in voting to put them at bets into Division 3 and let them work their way back if / when they can. No formality as they will need a complete new squad, sure to lose majority of fans and no cash….Green is just a clone of Whyte and will casue them much more pain.

Just thought I’d add the other line we constantly trotted out that ‘sky demands 4 old firm fixtures per season’ now correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that tantamount to match fixing?

We do have a split after all and can sky really demand that RFC** don’t finish in the bottom 6? Also note how it’s only RFC** players/fans etc saying that Scottish football needs them, seems like a poor attempt at reverse psychology to me and that in fact RFC** needs Scottish football!

    **denotes soon to be liquidated

Rangers have not only cheated Celtic but all the other teams in Scotland. Who’s to say Dundee United,Hearts, could have had a run in Europe if it was all on a level playing field. There is a lot of money to made in Champion’s leaque & the Europa Cup. The crooks @ ibrox prevented other teams from gaining glory. It’s great to see other fans than Celtic step up & telling their teams we won’t be there if you vote for a newco into the SPL.

Let’s not forget the teams around Europe that were put out of the CL or UEFA cup by RFC! This is such a bigger story than is being reported on so many levels!
