Newco Rangers face battle with walkaway players

Craig Whyte RangersRangers face further court action with the Scottish Professional Footballers Association over whether players can walk away for free.

Ibrox administrator Paul Clark claimed last night that all contracts will be transferred over to a newco on existing terms but the SPFA have gone on record contradicting that view.

Another legal battle looms on that front which could see some players frozen out of football if there is no quick solution.

Last night Clark said: “Our firm view is that the players’ contracts transfer to the newco.

“It’s something I know PFA Scotland have expressed a different view on and there have been discussions between lawyers for ourselves and the PFA. It’s something that will need to be resolved over the coming days.

“We’re disappointed in yesterday’s decision but we understand HMRC’s position. We wanted the CVA to go through but we structured a deal with Charles Green so that if a CVA couldn’t be concluded, we still had the fallback of a new company and an asset sale which would mean Rangers Football Club would survive.

“Today we’ve been finalising what that fallback position will look like assuming the CVA is rejected on Thursday, which looks the likely outcome.”

SPFA chief Fraser Wishart was hailed as a hero in March when he avoided redundancies by agreeing 75% pay cuts to ensure that Rangers completed the season.

That deal gave players get out clauses with some such as Kyle Lafferty and Maurice Edu able to leave Ibrox for less than £500,000 during the current transfer window.

Wishart will now have the task of freeing up his members registration to allow them to quit Ibrox for good.

Rangers star Kirk Broadfoot told The Sun: “The PFA have told the players that we can leave the club if it’s a newco. If the PFA are right, the whole team could walk out for nothing.

“Most of the boys are big Rangers fans, that’s why you’ve not really seen anyone leave.

I’m sitting here worried about what the future holds.”

Been involved in this myself and while on paper the contract simply moves over on existing terms. It is still down to the individual to accept or walk away. Besides which RIA could not afford the old wages….so how will the new regime with no European money, less or no TV revenue ?

All talk, but deep down they WANT the players to go..if they stay they know that any money raised from transfers will go to the creditors, at least it gives them an excuse.

FFS, it can’t be that complicated as its not the first time its happened but as with everything to do with this manky mob, they’ll drag it out for as long as they can.

Do us all a favour and just crawl into a corner and die as your an embarrassment to Scotland.

Have been TUPE’d a few times. The law guarantees you a job with the new company but it’s the individual’s choice as to whether they take it or not.
