Twitter Celtic NewsMidfielder Beram Kayal is the latest Celt to sign up for twitter under @beramangela giving Neil Lennon the option to field a twitter XI.

The majority of the Celtic first team use the popular social networking site while amongst the u-19 and u-20 squads it’s almost compulsory to be on twitter!

The success and popularity of twitter was acknowledged last night when Leeds Rugby League club beat Hull 21-6 with all of their players having their twitter names on the back of their shirts.

Whether Neil Doncaster would approve of @officialneil fielding a team that included @beramangela, @joe16led and @stoksey10 remains to be seen.

Looking ahead to last night’s twitter experiment Leeds PR Manager Phil Daly said: “We are delighted that the RFL have allowed us to bring this initiative forward. Twitter has been fantastic for us as a tool for communicating with our fans and especially so for our players.

“Superstars like Russell Crowe and Wayne Rooney have used their Twitter accounts to show their support for the Rhinos and we have seen Ryan Hall trending worldwide because of his try scoring exploits with the Rhinos and England.

“We are always looking for ways to innovate and spread the word about Leeds Rhinos. With over 500 million users on Twitter worldwide it is massive around the globe and a tremendous vehicle for us to grow our brand.”

Leeds own twitter feed has 18,000 followers while Celtic striker Tony Watt saw his twitter following move from 2,000 to over 20,000 following his scoring first team debut against Motherwell in April.

With over 130,000 followers Lennon is the most followed Celt on twitter.
