Raith Rovers step up their newco resistance

|

Stewart Regan Celtic newsRaith Rovers have firmed up their opposition to a First Division place being created for Sevco.

While Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster repeat their messages of doom, gloom and social unrest to scare off any potential sponsors the feet-on-the-ground Fifers are taking a more calculated approach to the proposal that they will vote on on Friday.

Raith chairman Turnbull Hutton has shown the leadership qualities sadly lacking throughout the Scottish game as the big salaries duck away from making the big decisions that they are well paid to make.

How Regan can contemplate membership of the SFA to a club without three years audited accounts is beyond reason.

The three year period isn’t to make things difficult for clubs, it’s to ensure that they are financially stable and not run by fly-by-night types who are likely to pack up and walk away at the first sign of trouble.

Addressing those issues a Raith statement warned: “We are concerned that there has not as yet been an opportunity for clubs to receive legal advice from the SFL and/or debate the potential consequences on the smooth running of our league in the event that the Courts are asked to annull/strike down any of the corporate transactions that have led to the current position of Sevco Scotland Ltd as owners of certain assets of the Rangers oldco.

“Indeed, the position as regards the potential sanctions to be applied by the Scottish FA via its Appellate Tribunal has also still to be bottomed out. In summary, we remain concerned that the SPL clubs have overwhelmingly voted to pass on this potential time bomb, which may yet explode once passed to the SFL’s jurisdiction, and we are being asked to accept this new company into membership, worse still in our top division.”

It is pleasantly surprising to see a response which sums up this whole sad affair, if the officials responsible for scottish football were as sensible this episode in our game would have been dealt with in a more appropriate and timely manner.

The difference between Turnball Hutton and our supposed leaders is that TH actually understands what’s going on. He’s not blinded by bias, panic, and cowardice like Regan, Doncaster, and Ugilvie.

Anybody with any sense would realise that trying to shoehorn the newco into higher league than it’s ready for will be a disaster for everyone involved. The last thing Scottish football needs is the newco imploding a few weeks into the season, something that’s very possible for many reasons- for example, when the oldco gets its proper financial and footballing penalties, they may also damage or even destroy the newco.

Regan and Ogilvie dont seem to have noticed that by bending and ignoring the rules to try and create a ragers 2, they are going to destroy all that’s left of ragers: the newco. Does Mr Regan really think that newco will win SFL 1 with six first team players while under a transfer embargo.

Regan and his merry men don’t seem to realise that unless Charlie Green, or some unnamed others, have a couple of £100m that they’re prepared to spend to keep the newco afloat: to pay off the the oldco’s tax debts and buy new players, the only place they’ve got a chance of surviving is in the SFL 3.

It seems pretty ironic to me that, like the oldco, the newcos going to be destroyed by people in high places bending and breaking the rules to make it successful.

  • If anyone had any doubt about Regan and Donacaster following their own agenda and that of the Newco – not one positive statement has come out of their orifices/offices over the past 5 months.
