Sevco stand off goes to the wire

Charles Green newsThe stand-off between Sevco and the SFA has continued today despite Charles Green announcing on Tuesday that a deal would be completed within 24 hours.

Both parties have to save face and are desperate to avoid being blamed if Sevco go into administration.

In public Green has to fall into line with peoples champion Ally McCoist and be battling to preserve the history and trophies won by Rangers.

However with a new company needing SFA membership to stand any chance of survival Green will have to go with whatever he gets from the SFA who have been in the unusual situation of negotiating punishments that have already been handed out to Rangers.

The likely compromise is that Sevco will be given SFA membership tomorrow and won’t be liable for any future penalties and sanctions from the SPL’s enquiry into undeclared payments made through the EBT scheme.

That allows Sevco to start the season at Brechin on Sunday and allows the SPL to retrospectively punish Rangers without any impact on Sevco.

Since the start of the week Green has been talking about agreement with the SFA and SFL with the only outstanding issues connected with the SPL.

As Sevco have already been denied SPL membership their dealings with the SFA don’t involve the SPL.

During the whole saga since Rangers refused to disclose that Craig Whyte had once been suspended from holding a directorship the SFA have been on the backfoot.

Fear of action from UEFA and FIFA will be the main concern for the SFA as they consider Sevco’s application for membership.

If they can satisfy themselves that Green has a credible plan for the club then an agreement will be reached tomorrow with Green claiming that Sevco won’t be punished over the dual contracts issue.

The only certainty is that week by week Green and Sevco will be more closely scrutinised than any other club in the SFA with John Brown and the Rangers supporters more sceptical than anyone else about what motivates the former Sheffield United chief to get involved in a business that traditional Rangers supporting businessman have turned their back on.

This is so stupid. Sevco have no connection with rangers oldco. Why should they take the hits for the corrupt cheats?

    • jim thetim says:

Will they still play at ibrcks, will they still train at murray park.STILL A CONNECTION SELL THE LOT.

    • Chicago Typewriter says:

The big issue is that SEVCO wants to transfer the old membership. If they wanted a new membership they would need three years of audited accounts which they cannot provide; they are voluntarily asking for the connection I OLDCO in order to bypass Spartans, etc.

    JoeG,

A Newco MUST take some of the responsibilities for the company that has dissolved and died. If it was a completely clean state of affairs they started off with what on Earth is to stop ALL clubs with a sizeable debt from going down this easy route, Celtic included?

Nope, Sevco have not been punished yet, they have merely (eventually) had the rule book thrown at them. The real punishments are yet to come…..

Sevco want it both ways: they want ragers’ history, but not the dodgy bank balance or the reputation as lying, cheating scumbags.

Unfortunately, Charlie’s campaign of misinformation is having the desired effect. There are neutral football supporters in England that actually believe that old ragers and sevco have been badly treated by the SFA. If only they knew the truth. The full extent of old ragers’ cheating must be exposed to the world.

The only charges that should held against Sevco are the outstanding football debts. They still have Wallace’s services without having paid for him…so clearly liable. Duff & Dumber should return the 2nd place prize money as the club are no longer in existence, so officially bottom of the league – hence they are no longer in the league.

The matter of removing tainted titles / trophies and any further penalties has nothing at all to do with Sevco / Green / Sally. That club is dead and therefore nothing to stop completion of investigations.

fed up with this utter nonsense of a sideshow! good riddance to old rubbish and hello to newco… what will be will be… just looking forward to the new season getting underway with Helsinki! back the bhoys and de-stress yourselfs with these 3rd division rankers! HH!

  • GSW says:

This has a slightly surreal feel to it. If as a result of the EBT investigation they remove titles, they can do that without ‘newco’ Rangers agreement. Does anyone have a reasonable explanation why Rangers should have a final say on this? doesn’t seem required, can just agree to disagree.

I think CG is more concerned about unlimited(?) financial penalties that they may be required to cough up – as it stands, optimistically, SPL finances are going to be down ~£7m next year and the EBT penalties facade may be used to pass this shortfall on. CG personally more interested in business plan over next 5yrs, i.e. the future, and any “unknowns” in that, rather than dealing with the petty “oh poor us, they beat us and its so not fair” grievances of other SPL clubs.

[Thanks joe, they wouldn’t be able to work it out without you]

Still, anybody think the stalemate with CG is about Titles? or punitive fines from a cash strapped SPL?

  • pat says:

It will be funny watching Green and sally telling everyone that no one is touching their titles and pulling the wool over the Rangers supporters eyes. In 6 to 8 weeks the defunct club Rangers FC will then be stripped of 5 titles and Sally and Green will be telling everyone that they didn’t agree to it – even though they know now that it’s coming. But iut gets them playing football and that’s all that matters for Whatever they are calling themselves – although if it Rangers I will be complaining to Companies house and FIFA/UEFA as that is too close to the liquidated club.

    • GSW says:

Rangers stripped of titles by SPL/SFA. Who cares? Nobody gives any credance to what they do or don’t do, everbody knows they’re a bunch of dodgey, “$porting In£grity”, flappy feet clowns. It’s a bit like Jedward being in charge of “musical goodness”.

They only thing that has any value was what happens out on the park. I wouldn’t let an SPL jury deliberate on parking fines.

      😉

  • Buffythecat says:

I suspect that there are still many thousands of football supporters all over Scotland awaiting the outcome of this sevco / newco fiasco before they part hard earned money to buy season tickets. The game is still in the balance. Is Scotland still corrupt or will the SFA do the right thing and stay strong against this two headed monster. If they (SFA) back down the game is up and corruption reigns supreme and its the end of the beautiful game . . .

  • DavieBhoy says:

I feel the SFA will cover up most of the dodgy stuff! they would all be jailed if they didn’t HH

  • Big Shuggie says:

Like a sack of unwanted wee mogrel pups… floating gently downstream as the last air bubbles gently fizz and pop. You hear the whining as they slowly sink, but you are powerless to help.
