Charles Green newsMike Ashley has rejected Charles Green’s invite to invest in Sevco.

Two weeks ago Green claimed that Ashley was about to take a 10% stake in Sevco in return for Sports Direct gaining exclusive merchandising rights.

The Newcastle United owner was one of three billionaires, none from Motherwell, that Green had lined up as investors.

Sevco today announced a joint venture with Sports Direct but there was no sign of any direct investment from the sportswear giant or from Ashley.

Green said: “We are delighted to have SportsDirect.com on board as they are one of the world’s top retail brands. This deal will be beneficial to both parties but more importantly the supporters who will be able to buy direct from Rangers once again and support their club.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Rangers to really drive revenues through the sale of merchandise with SportsDirect.com and profits will be reinvested back into the team and the Club.

“Rangers fans are passionate about all aspects of their Club and I know this new deal will improve our retail operation immeasurably and allow fans greater access to Rangers products worldwide.”

A spokesperson for SportsDirect.com added: “This is a very exciting deal for SportsDirect.com and we are pleased to be forming a retail partnership with one of the UK’s most recognised football clubs.

“Building on our well established retail and brand experience, we look forward to working with Rangers to offer a wider selection of official apparel and merchandise to their increasingly global fan base.”

  • Althetim says:

Both of the above comments are meant to be funny, no doubt, I just find it sad that the above nonsense is deemed ok for a Celtic site. Wouldn’t look out of place on followfollow.

        • sands1888 says:

Follow follow full of of bigots and racists, that was a lighthearted attempt at humour in regards to the subhuman benefit cheats that make up a large section of there support. Lighten up. Maybe a happy ending massage do the trick

        • marsyas says:

Just thought we were better than resorting to banging on about ‘benefit cheats’, ‘methadone addicts’ etc. Thing is, they say the exact same thing about us.

  • dombhoy67 says:

I was in Sports Direct today with my son pricing some goods and was aiming to go back this weekend and spend a few hundred quid on sports gear…needless to say that will not be happening now or ever in the future. I will also be spreading the word about how money spent at the new Sports Direct will go to the Sevco cheats. A sound bhoycott of that place is well on the cards.

  • Big Donny says:

dombhoy67, you NEED to go back at the weekend…. pick out EVERYTHING you looked at today…. make your way to the checkout, ask them if they are REALLY sponsoring THE RANGERS FC…. if yes, ask them where the nearest JJB store is, leave the stuff at the checkout before you make your way to JJB ;-))))))

  • Mallet Male says:

Sports direct can stick their outsize, cheap and nasty crap up their khyzers! I haven’t used JJB since they started selling filth fc merchandise and have no intention of going back there or using sd for anything. Hit ’em where it hurts repeatedly 🙂

  • Ciaran says:

Sports Direct sell mostly last years stuff. How’s that going to work with Sevco?

  • Los Lobos says:

So what happened to the JJB deal? I was under the impression that deal stood until 2016. Or have “Rangers” played the oldco/newco switcheroo to get out of it?

  • Malky says:

According to Wiki JJB are majority owned by Sportsdirect anyway, smoke and mirrors !!

  • RedditchBhoy says:

So Ash is not going to splash the cash and who are the other billionaires, this guy is going to out bullshit Craig Whyte. An ideal sponsor would be Wonga.com another rip off company.

  • Richie says:

Who cares??? The team formerly known as Rangers are not in our Division, and won’t be for the forseeable future. Can we not discuss Celtic related topics ?????
