Champions League Celtic newsHelsingborgs lost 2-1 away to league leaders Elfsborg in their final match before facing Celtic in the final Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.

Former Rangers player Alejandro Bedoya opened the scoring with a bicycle kick in the 37th minute but the home side hit back with goals in the 70th and 74th minutes when centre-half Andreas Augustsson headed home a free kick before Viktor Claesson converted a chance from close range.

The defeat leaves Helsingborgs ten points behind Elfsborg with just 11 matches left to play.

Age Hareide’s team were without a number of first choice defenders including goalkeeper and captain Par Hansson giving 39-year-old Daniel Andersson his first league start in three years.

Bedoya was brought in to replace Alfy Finnbogasson but admits that he would rather still be fighting for a place at Ibrox.

He said: “I would love to have stayed at Rangers if they had remained in the SPL, or even gone into the First Division but given the circumstances, my ambitions to get back into the international team and to further my career… I just couldn’t stay in the Third Division.

“The career of a footballer is very short and to get back to the SPL is going to take at least three years. And there is no guarantee.

“I didn’t get a chance to get back into the international team while I was at Rangers. The year before that, I had played pretty much every game for the national team.

“It was disappointing, which is why I needed the move and to be playing top-flight football.

“Supporters want to see loyalty and they were upset when they saw so-called Rangers guys jump ship first.

“I came back with the intention of playing for them, even though nothing was known about which division they’d be in. I just hope the fans understand I want to play for my country.”

Any man who can’t get into the US and A Soccerball team……..

    The defence rests.

who really cares what this attention seeker says… I don’t think I’ve heard one single former rangers fan express…. well anything about this guy, no regrets anyway…. but he certainly has a lot to say for himself!! Hopefully he’ll realise when he comes up against Celtic that staying for Sevco and mixing it up in 3rd division was his level peak and his best shot at playing regular soccer!
