Regan justifies leaked email with Sevco First Division plan

|

Stewart Regan Celtic newsStewart Regan has defended the leaked email that explained how he intended providing Sevco with a First Division place.

The email came to light days before SFL clubs were to vote on accepting Sevco’s membership application and whether they should be promoted into the First Division.

Despite Regan’s careful planning and warnings of a slow lingering death for Scottish football his plan was rejected by 25 votes to 5.

Several SFL chairmen called for a vote of no confidence in the SFL chief executive as a supporter led backlash ensured Regan’s plan was a non-runner.

Defending the deal and his role in it Regan said: “I have been vilified for trying to be a marriage broker or a peace keeper. Let me take you through the timeline from when we put the proposal together.

“On June 18, we had a presentation in the boardroom featuring all the key parties — the SFA, SFL, SPL and the lawyers.

“That moved on to a conference call on June 22 which was summarised by myself in a set of notes which went out on June 23.

“There was nothing in that email which was secret in any way. The fact it became a leaked email was quite surprising, because there was nothing in there the governing bodies didn’t know about.

“Rangers were fully aware of the discussions. Charles Green and Ally McCoist sat in the boardroom and agreed the plan for Rangers to be part of the First Division.

“It was presented as being in the best interests of the game, from both a financial and a sporting sanctions perspective.

“Therefore, it was nothing that people around the table felt was negative, emotional or should not have been discussed.

“As the governing body, we were there to try and put a plan together for the best interests of the game and that’s what we were doing.”

Regan added: “In the dialogue which ensued there were many influential factors. Club chairmen came under pressure from their fans.

“There was a desire to sell season tickets and there was a concern Rangers had to be dealt with in a way that recognised the seriousness of some of the challenges which had gone before.

“All we ever tried to do was act in the best interests of the game, but the other clubs decided otherwise.

“Comments have been made since, but we’ve got to rise above that and do what we think is right.”

I don’t think Regan realises what the problem is, being the “peacekeeper” is all well and good, all he actually did though was make it worse with threats and bullying tactics, in the end the vote from the SFL Chairmen (according to statements made), was as much a backlash against that as anything else.

If you can’t “lead” then you shouldn’t be doing the job. If you are “remote” from the complexities of Scottish Football, you shouldn’t be doing the job. If incompetence isn’t a good reason for getting rid of him what is.

Hope you get knocked out in the away leg. Creditable performance last night nevertheless.

[GSW supports Sevco, his previous club won 1 out of their last 25 UEFA ties, he is now an expert on the Ramsdens Cup]

    • Stevie says:

Let’s blame anything and anyone but Oldco and her cheating ways. Regan in fact has done Sevco a massive favour by allowing them a licence.
Ask yourself this as bomber brown said who owns Ibrox and Murray park cos it sure ain’t Green and Sevco.
So as Sevco Scotland ltd collects season ticket monies think on how you the oldco support could have save your club but couldnt be arsed, you truly are the people.

      Think Ticketus.

      • GSW says:

“the oldco support could have save your club but couldnt be arsed”

O/T perhaps, but the “oldco” had a large, even unquantifiable, debt, nobody will put money into that. CG has drawn a line, now money can go in.

Not sure what you mean by “Think Ticketus”, they voted for the CVA BTW, they’re just an investment group.

        • Stevie says:

So as an investment group do you believe Ticketus are just walking away empty handed, as Bomber Brown so aptly put (Show me the title deeds)
I will give you a wee clue Ticketus own Ibrox and Murry park.

        • GSW says:

CW give personal guarantees as part of the ticketus deal, they’ve stated they will be trying to recover the money from him. As for bomber, much as his heart might be in the right place, he’s still a loon.

[I’m sure Ticketus were shocked to find out that Whytey wasn’t a zillionaire- Editor]

        • Stevie says:

Walking blindly into oblivion your choice.
          CVA wasn’t agreed liquidation happened.

So a corrupt official and 2 scumbags from a new side legally unentitled to enter any setup got together to decide the best way forward for the whole of scottish football and decided not only to break the rules to allow them entry but to also deide to bump them up 2 divisions? Almost laughable, if any deranged sevco fans would care to correct me then go right ahead

  • Big Lanky Bhoy says:

GSW, no line was drawn by Charlie one suit, you are Newco, done nothing, won nothing. How do you tell your Tim Grand Children that you couldn’t save your beloved club? It died on your watch..shameful, undignified. How can you look at yerself in the mirror? You now support an investment group..oh dear!

  • paranoidandroid says:

Regan and co. made themselves look like fools doing Ogilvie’s bidding. They bent over backwards to save the oldco, then bent over backwards to help the newco. Now, for all their trouble, they’re getting abuse from the peepil they were trying to help. The ragers fans are raging at them. Hilarious.

  • Mc cabe says:

Regan is a rangers man through and through!he schemed with the english bible badger that is Charles green and it bit him in the ass,now all the rangers supporters are sending him death threats!pure ironic !!! Long live the best club ever ” Celtic Fc ” hail hail

  • Antonous F says:

Why were Green and McCoist allowed into the boardroom to discuss what was best for Scottish football when the club / ex club / former club / the club formerly known as, had spent the last 15 yaers making a mockery of every other club in Scotland??

The boardroom should have been filled with the chairmen of all these other clubs (excluding the club formerly known as), discussing what was best for scottish football and agreeing the most appropriate punishment for said club, rather than pandering to the whims of the Bully boys (pardon the pun).

hopefully that is lesson learned Mr Regan, the silent majority has spoken. time to ignore the loud mouth minority.

  • williebhoy says:

We should be thanking whoever leaked the email as the clubs themselves would have been party to putting RFC(IA) into the 1st division but for fan power.

While Reagan was put up as the lead role, while the clubs themselves hid behind him. It was Reagan who made ridiculous statements about clubs going to the wall, ably supported by that other muppet Doncaster. In the background, Chico & Green were obviously rubbing their hands at the prospect of either SPL or at worst Division 3 football.

Now the FANS have shown who truly runs our game and let those in “power” know that they are being watched carefully. We will NOT accept further messing about with the rules or simply ignoring future sanctions.

  • “Rangers were fully aware of the discussions. Charles Green and Ally McCoist sat in the boardroom and agreed the plan for Rangers to be part of the First Division.”

Says it all Mr. Regan. WHY?. WHY?. WHY?

  • Buffythecat says:

Inviting the criminals into the jury room to best decide their own fate and call it in the best interests of society. This is not laughable this is not even pathetic; this is total corruption. It has absolutely nothing, NOTHING to do with the best interests of Scottish football. It is all to do with what is in the best interests of Rangers 2012. No matter how this corrupt little man dresses it up he and his cohorts need to be brought before the Chairmen of the 39 clubs and asked to resign; they wont but they have done irreparable damage to what was left of the reputation and integrity of Scottish football. I just hope Alex Thompson of C.4 does a two hour Special on the corrupt practices of Scottish Football so that the whole world can see for themselves just how deep their corruption goes and who really are running and ruining this once beautiful game of ours.
