Paul Lambert newsRoberto Mancini hit out at Paul Lambert following Manchester City’s 4-2 Capital One Cup defeat from Aston Villa.

The City boss clashed with Lambert on the touchline during the second half as City lost costly late goals for the third game running.

Villa twice fell behind before taking the game to extra-time before producing a welcome win on the back of Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Southampton.

Lambert and Mancini clashed on the touchline following a tackle on Gareth Barry by Joe Bennett.

“I am tired of this manager because I didn’t say anything to him,” the City boss said. “I asked the fourth official if it was a yellow card.

“Some managers go to bigger stadiums and they don’t say anything. I am tired of this, very tired.

“I am tired with their behaviour. It’s better that some managers shut up.

“Every time that I say something they come. I didn’t say anything but when they go, for example, to Old Trafford they never say anything.

“When other managers talk about the referee they always sit on the bench. I don’t like this type of behaviour.”

Brushing the complaints aside Lambert said: “If that’s what he said then fine.

I respect him as a manager and an ex-player. It wasn’t really a spat. It was nothing.”

Lambert added: “It is a massive result for us. I thought the way we played was excellent,” he added.

“It was a brilliant response from the team. It was a huge effort.

“We didn’t deserve to go a goal behind but we showed real character to come back.”
