Emilio Izaguirre Celtic newsEmilio Izaguirre is preparing for a do-or-die World Cup qualifier in Havana on Friday.

Honduras lost the opening match of Group C at home to Panama before salvaging a 0-0 draw away to Canada.

With Panama on six points and Canada on four the Hondurans can’t afford to drop anything against Cuba if they are to finish in the top two and stay on route for Rio.

Looking ahead to the clash in Havana Izaguirre said: “Games away to the Caribbean countries are always very difficult. The Cuba fans will be psyched up for the match and make sure that their players fight for the three points.

“We’ve not had a good start to the group and know that we can’t afford any more slips.

“Everyone wants to reach the World Cup in Brazil, we know what is at stake and want to come back from Cuba with three points. If we do that I’m confident we’ll be able to beat Cuba at home next week and be back in contention in the group.”

Izaguirre’s new team Miku will be in South American qualifying action with Venezuela facing Peru and Paraguay away from home.

Venezuela are currently sitting in fifth place of the nine team group with the top four automatically joining Brazil in the finals with the fifth place side going into a play-off.

As the only South American nation never too have reached the finals making it through to Brazil would be the greatest achievement in the nations’ football history.

Miku played in the home wins against Argentina and Bolivia that have given Venezuela their best ever chance of reaching the finals of the World Cup for the first time ever.
