Lawwell sets the record straight

Peter Lawwell Celtic newsPeter Lawwell has set the record straight on the campaign to bring Celtic into the EBT scandal.

With HMRC and the SPL looking into how Rangers operated their EBT scheme over an 11 year period a whispering campaign code named ‘Operation Ah But What About Them’ has swung into action to deflect scrutiny away from David Murray.

Championed by the most gullible of cheerleaders every attempt has been made to make it an Old Firm issue after Celtic inherited an EBT with Juninho following his transfer in 2004 from Middlesbrough.

EBT payments to the Brazilian were declared in his contract to the SPL and HMRC but that hasn’t held back the campaign to have Celtic investigated.

As Murray and his devotees have repeatedly pointed out EBT’s were legal- how you operate and declare them is the issue that Rangers are being investigated for.

An EBT must be discretionary to avoid tax and can’t be included in a contract, similarly all payments made to players must be included in contracts declared to the SPL and SFA.

“It’s absolutely straightforward,” Lawwell declared. “We know we operated one single EBT. HMRC know how we operated that EBT. And the football authorities know how we operated that. We have no case to answer.

“I don’t know how Rangers operated their EBT. HMRC know, the football authorities know and there appears to be a tribunal and a commission set up.

“So it’s straightforward. In some quarters people have tried to drag us into the debate and it’s nothing to do with us. It’s a red herring.

“It’s my understanding that it’s not about EBTs. It’s about dual contracts. Again, I don’t know how they operated it so I can’t really comment but I know how we operated it and so do the football authorities. To me, it’s quite straightforward. There should be no muddying of the waters.”

PL is right it is straightforward. But that’s not going to stop the usual chancers and rabble-rousers trying to bewilder and enrage the mindless Orc hoardes. (Not difficult, I know).

It’s just the traditional way that people connected to ragers try to deal with their problems. However, I’d like to see everyone at Ibrokes and in the media being held accountable for their misleading statements and, sometimes, outright lies. They’re playing a dangerous game with other peoples saftey.

  • Love him or loath him peter lawwell is the reason we are doing so well financially he is Celtic through and through and without him god knows we’re we would be. Thank you peter keep up the good work. Hail hail

What a bigoted sycophantic Scottish media we have they’ve known about Celtic’s EBT for weeks/months/possibly years but still they bow to Sevco and drive there agenda.
It’ll soon be time for Sevco and they’re purchased history to stand in the dock and face up to there crimes.
Got to give Peter Lawwell praise he’s fighting a battle against a press pack with the agenda set by Sevco and the artist formally known as Rangers. All good things come to those that wait. I still believe Sevco will be shafted by there new owners so I’m going to sit back and watch the fallout.
The more deranged Greens utterances become the I’m enjoying the show.
Makes me wonder why the media are so one sided I know not all of Oldco EBT monies haven’t been accounted for makes me wonder who else benifitted. UNLESS

I find it quite ammusing to hear the ex-huns who benefitted from EBT’s state quite aggressively that they will never hand over any medals. I’ve yet to hear one say that they will re-pay the EBT “loan”. Funny that.

God bless Peter Lawwell. He is no fool and he knows how and when to step in and set the ”record” straight. He is a breath of fresh air in a sea of ”newspaper” garbage, propaganda and poison. Bet the dead rangers wishe that they could find someone like Peter Lawwell to handle their accounts instead of coco the clown Green. Still, its only a matter of time when they can seek a new chairman as the Green man is flashing big style and is getting ready to ‘walk’. That will then be the end of the sevco franchise.

    Fellow video Celts
compare the rantings of Green, Jardine & co with the coherent eloquence of Mr Lawwell.

Not sure how to get this out to the wider Bampot world. i came across this interview by the Beyond The Pitch guys with Sandy Jardine from 9th August.
    http://www.beyondthepitch.net/podcasts/edition/index.cfm/beyond-the-pitch/2012/08/09/sandy-jardine/
within the 1st 10 minutes he states it is all Craig Whyte’s fault, Rangers have came out of administration and are rebuilding and that Charles Green has delivered everything he said he would to date.
this might be a great project for someone with the relevent skills to break down the interview and put some truths around it.

anyhow, if you want a laugh, have a listen
