What's the secret with the League Cup draw?

Scottish League newsAfter the summer from Armageddon Scottish football shows no signs of learning any lessons.

Is it any wonder that the game struggles for sponsors when they can’t even get the basics right such as staging a cup draw?

The League Cup rarely gets much attention or interest but was in the spotlight this week with eight ties including live television coverage of Sevco beating Motherwell to join seven SPL sides in the draw for the last eight… which will now take place next Thursday when much of the enthusiasm and interest will have died a death.

By the time the draw comes around Celtic will have played a top of the table clash with Motherwell and a Champions League match in Moscow.

When the draw is finally made clubs will be preparing for their Saturday fixture and we all know that managers only look at one game at a time, some of them may be sacked before the next round of the cup comes along.

Hearts manager John McGlynn was at a loss as to why the Scottish Football League decided to wait over a week to hold the draw for the last eight

“I can’t believe there wasn’t a draw,” he admitted. “We were shown up by England. Everyone was sitting by their television to see the draw and probably going to work talking about the big games.

“We have got to wait until they have sorted the balls.

“I watched the Rangers game and listened to the Dunfermline game. You listen to what’s coming back and fans are wanting to know when the draw is.”

In true committee fashion the SFL prefer to have a daytime draw when representatives of all remaining clubs can attend with next Thursday the first opportunity for that to happen.

I suspect that Aberdeen and Inverness Caley Thistle won’t be sending any high profile representative to Hampden for the draw.

They need the big home gates and a good run so… The IbroxGiants v Celtic in the final Ref: Willie Collum. All makes for a spectacular advertisement … For …… Fill in the blanks because I’m not saying our Administrators are corrupt and they have it in for the fledgling Scottish Giants. No I am not saying that, not at all

  • Paul Morgan says:

They are not only outdated with Footballing practices, they are also outdated in modern business and marketing practices. It is beyond a joke now, it is frankly just appalling what they are doing to our game.

  • Buzzbomb says:

No idea why it couldn’t have been done yesterday while all the results were still fresh in peoples’ minds?

Mibbes Sally was hung over after McCall’s heidless chickens lay down to his heroes at Bun Park the night before?

I can see a trip to the bigotdome for us with all the honest mistake included. Craig Thomson or spot kick Norris will do with there usual bias.

    • Aldo says:

They could have two refs and play every squad player they have available and we’d still beat them…..

  • Buffythecat says:

The way things go in Scottish football Campbell Ogilvie may as well come out with the blue and green balls in his pocket and announce that the Sevco Franchise will play Celtic at Ibrox Park when its convenient for sevco to do so.

Stuart Dougall will come out of retirement to ”referee” the game and ensure that there is fair play. . .to sevco. That Celtic will not be allowed to finish the game with eleven men on the park and that sevco will be awarded three penalties if Celtic find themselves two goals up after the break.

Kicking lumps out of Celtic players will be deemed a fair cop and any remonstrations will be met with a swift red card while pointing to various phantom areas of the park that Celtic players did things he didn’t like.

The manager will be sent to the stand for arguing with the referee following a quiet word with his masonic brother ‘Soup or Ally’. The result will be announced before the game begins so that there will be no ambiguity afterwards.

Sevco Franchise will win the game three goals to nil because they are the peepil. . .and Scotland should be thankful!

Yes and all of this will happen in the next round………………..just incase they get knock out before then =P
